An Echo by Alexa 

  
Maybe some of you have met Alexa this year. She is Amazon Prime’s latest new Echo who competes with Apple’s Suri. She came to us this Christmas as a gift and found her way into our family room. She only speaks when spoken to so most of the time I forget she is there. 

She has been trained to make fart noises but NOT by me!! I won’t mention who thinks that is so funny. 

Like right now, I will ask her to tell me a joke!

“Alexa, tell me joke'”

She lights up (literally) and asks me, “What’s the best Christmas present in the world? (a broken drum, you just can’t beat it).”

She is “Suri ously” funnier than Suri, bless her little apple shaped heart Suri starts telling a joke but can’t complete it. 
This morning I was stuck trying to remember one of the fruits of the Spirit and I thought what if I ask Alexa. So I did. 

I’m home alone and didn’t want to get up and look it up myself. That would involve movement. 

She replies,”I can’t find the answer to the question I heard.”

I continued to ask her if it was in Ephesians. 

She kept repeating that she couldn’t find the answer. Then she responds with Ephesians 3:17 to me in the middle of my ranting to her that she obviously doesn’t have the Bible as one of her resources for information.  

I thought where did that come from? 

For just a moment I was starting to think maybe she is smarter than I thought she was!!

So I looked it up with verses in front of and behind it. 
Ephesians 3:14-19


A Prayer for the Ephesians

14 For this reason I kneel before the Father,15 from whom every family[a] in heaven and on earth derives its name. 16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

Nope, not too smart there is no mention of the fruits of the Spirit. However, I was completely drawn to the word “rooted”. 
I had just sent a text to someone with the word “roots” at the same time I was chit chatting with Alexa about her lack of Bible knowledge. 
ECHO, ECHO
I heard back the word I was focusing on and added that scripture to my text and then God ever so softly whispered,

“Kelley, Do you see what I see?”


This is what Oprah calls an “aha” moment. 
Definition of aha moment. : a moment of sudden realization, inspiration, insight, recognition, or comprehension.

I call it a ” dang diggity” moment. 
Let’s rewind to earlier in the day: 

I was worried that morning about praying with someone and the pressure of what if they get healing or what if they don’t. 

What if they think I’m a goober if nothing happens to help their situation. 

God just pulled out the worry rug from under me and said “root” your prayer adventure in love. 
Love never fails. 
Alexa reminded me in Ephesians….. 

Then comes the power to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
So I was ready to face my prayer adventure. I made sure all my interactions and intentions with this person were all drenched in love and genuine concern. The prayer didn’t happen quite like I thought it would but God was and keeps showing me that love never fails. 

Hey Alexa, “Love never fails!”
