Summer Selection – On The Edge

Dive off the Edge into an Adventure in the Unseen Realm

Well, can you believe it’s that time of year again? “Summer Fun in the Sun” is how I like to refer to this season that so faithfully arrives this year on June 20, 2016. Of course for many of us it arrives right after the last day of school for some that still have kiddos at home.
There seems to be more time to read a good book when you can take it with you to the pool, lake, beach, cabin, mountains, or just to your most comfy chair outside.
I landed upon a book last week. Thanks to Amazon Prime I received it in three days.

A Novel of Spiritual Warfare

On The Edge by F. Parker Hudson

The synopsis on back cover reads.

Richard Sullivan thought he had it all until he faced the consequences of his actions…

Richard Sullivan has a problem. His average American family is on the edge of ruin and they don’t even realize it. The Sullivans are struggling through every day life with the dark power over them so strong that they cannot find their way-a power that is filling their minds with voices of greed, hate, pride and temptation. And now the very fabric of their lives is unraveling before their eyes. If only they would listen a little harder to the other voice trying to get through to them-the voice of hope, forgiveness and love before it’s too late.

It was published in 1994. Seriously, I have never heard of this book or this author. Sorry, Mr.Hudson where have you been hiding this book that I couldn’t find you until 2016. This author does a fabulous job revealing the hidden spiritual battle going on all around our families.
It’s a timely book in a timely season.

Book Two begins on page 209.

We are always given the choice which direction we want to go in our lives. Who do we listen to the voices of reason or voices of treason. Ultimately, greed, hate, pride and temptation end up betraying us and leading us down a path of death and destruction. Book Two recounts what might have happened to the Sullivan family had they had another outcome. What if all along the way they chose to listen to the voices that lead to a prosperous life full of good reason?

As I read this book and put it down I can’t escape it. I am constantly reminded that every action, deed, thought and the words I speak are being evaluated by an unseen highly organized system. It reminds me of the Star Wars series. There are the forces of light and the forces of darkness. Both operating as they are commanded and dispatched. We don’t realize the role we play or are played by these forces.

I am currently in the middle of Book Two and quite relieved that the outcome can be altered if I choose to be aware, intentional and in tune to the what the Holy Spirit is speaking to me each day.
I will be honest I get overwhelmed and discouraged at times when I see all the changes in our society that negatively affect our young people and the future generations to come.

I often ask myself how do I come up against all that is infecting this generation. I have three kids who are in that generation. I am reminded through this book many valuable lessons of spiritual warfare that I can walk away with and feel confident that I can make difference in my family and all those that are in my field of influence.

Power of Prayer

Lord,

Open up my eyes, ears and heart to the power of prayer. Empower me to walk in the authority of that privilege that was granted to me through the power of the cross in Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 6:12

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

A Time For Everything

“There is a time for everything.”

I think I’ve heard this phrase over 100 times. I’ll be honest, I haven’t always appreciated it, but I found myself rejoicing in it this week.

In one glorious day my oldest daughter had her 23rd birthday, I attended the Baccalaureate service for my next oldest daughter, my middle-school daughter played her final softball game of the season, and my youngest daughter tumbled through her gymnastics recital. Oh, and my third-grade son competed in a track meet. Did I leave anyone out?

“Whew” allow me to take a breath as I recap the day.

Needless to say, I don’t believe I accomplished much at work. And that was okay . . . that day required time to participate in the various seasons of my children’s lives.

It hasn’t always been easy for me to just get up and go, choosing the right thing, over expectations of others, or of….myself.

But God has been speaking and my ears are perking-up in anticipation. I have no idea what awaits or where He will lead the next year, I dont even know what tomorrow will hold. What I do know for sure is that God has given me a new direction to my life. A new direction for His purpose.

For some reason, in this season, I find that I am at peace with this. There is actually an excitement stirring, even within this great unknown.

My faith and hope lie behind things yet unseen and I believe HIS treasures are hidden for those who believe to discover as we search for Him. Each new season is packed with new treasures to be found.

What season does the Lord have you in? What treasures are hidden for you to discover?

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 (NIV) says, “There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.”

Dear Heavenly Father,

I come to you in thankfulness for every season that has brought, and continues to bring me closer to you. I rejoice in the ability to experience time, memories and your treasures. My heart is overjoyed in every new discovery of your wondrous nature. Thank you for every season, good or bad, because it allows me to understand more of you. May I continue to learn who you are in every season.

In Jesus Name Amen.

Magnolia Mine

Magnolia sweet

Magnolia’s call

Magnolia memories

All summer long

Such fragile petals

Of our youth

Spent frolicking

Each afternoon

Cream colored skin

So soft and pale

Green eyes of emerald

Knew me so well

Magnolia tree swaying

In the storm

The fragrance of our

Past is mourned

Children laughing

In your limbs

Their echoes haunting

With the wind

Magnolia tree in

Your front yard

Will always be

In this woman’s heart

Singing

Laughing

Dreaming

Smiling

Knowing we must

Say goodbye

Our souls forever

Entwined

Magnolia mine

The Beach

What is it about the beach that causes one to be so relaxed and fresh minded. Since all of my not so old life that I can remember I feel more at home sitting on the beach or a near a body of water.

I used to tease that I must have been a mermaid or dolphin in another life. But since I know that I was created by an awesome Creator who designed me to like what I like and be what I am.

Which in not a mermaid or dolphin.

I continue to draw near to the water and sun every chance I get.

I know the truth.

The truth is:

God created us from the dust of the earth.
Genesis 2:7

“Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”
There must be something to many of us feeling so at home near where we came from. Yes, I have been called a tree hugger, granola girl and hippie at times.

I’m really just a lover of nature and all things connected with it.

I do eat meat!!😜
BTW, trees tell us stories with their rings found in their stumps and could tell us some whoppers if they could speak.

Stop and look at a tree. I dare you to ask it a story!!
I love the earth that God created. Just when I think I have seen the most beautiful thing, I am amazed at another scene before me with backdrops of His majesty.

Right now it just happens to be a creative canvas of turquoise ocean and white sand.

Check out Isaiah 60.

I couldn’t stop at verse 2 because it has so much more insight for those who want to go deeper.

Isaiah 60

The Glory of Zion

60 “Arise, shine, for your light has come,

and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.

2 See, darkness covers the earth

and thick darkness is over the peoples,

but the Lord rises upon you

and his glory appears over you.

3 Nations will come to your light,

and kings to the brightness of your dawn.

4 “Lift up your eyes and look about you:

   All assemble and come to you;

your sons come from afar,

and your daughters are carried on the hip.

5 Then you will look and be radiant,

   your heart will throb and swell with joy;

the wealth on the seas will be brought to you,

to you the riches of the nations will come.

6 Herds of camels will cover your land,

young camels of Midian and Ephah.

And all from Sheba will come,

   bearing gold and incense

and proclaiming the praise of the Lord.

7 All Kedar’s flocks will be gathered to you,

   the rams of Nebaioth will serve you;

they will be accepted as offerings on my altar,

and I will adorn my glorious temple.

8 “Who are these that fly along like clouds,

   like doves to their nests?

9 Surely the islands look to me;

in the lead are the ships of Tarshish,[a]

bringing your children from afar,

   with their silver and gold,

to the honor of the Lord your God,

   the Holy One of Israel,

for he has endowed you with splendor.

10 “Foreigners will rebuild your walls,

and their kings will serve you.

Though in anger I struck you,

in favor I will show you compassion.

11 Your gates will always stand open,

they will never be shut, day or night,

so that people may bring you the wealth of the nations—

their kings led in triumphal procession.

12 For the nation or kingdom that will not serve you will perish;

   it will be utterly ruined.

13 “The glory of Lebanon will come to you,

the juniper, the fir and the cypress together,

to adorn my sanctuary;

and I will glorify the place for my feet.

14 The children of your oppressors will come bowing before you;

all who despise you will bow down at your feet

and will call you the City of the Lord,

Zion of the Holy One of Israel.

15 “Although you have been forsaken and hated,

   with no one traveling through,

I will make you the everlasting pride

and the joy of all generations.

16 You will drink the milk of nations

and be nursed at royal breasts.

Then you will know that I, the Lord, am your Savior,

your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.

17 Instead of bronze I will bring you gold,

and silver in place of iron.

Instead of wood I will bring you bronze,

and iron in place of stones.

I will make peace your governor

   and well-being your ruler.

18 No longer will violence be heard in your land,

nor ruin or destruction within your borders,

but you will call your walls Salvation

   and your gates Praise.

19 The sun will no more be your light by day,

nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you,

for the Lord will be your everlasting light,

and your God will be your glory.

20 Your sun will never set again,

   and your moon will wane no more;

the Lord will be your everlasting light,

and your days of sorrow will end.

21 Then all your people will be righteous

and they will possess the land forever.
Our Creator loves us so much He gave us all the wonderful places to visit and soak in His light and allow His glory to appear over us.

How He Loves Lyrics

He is jealous for me, loves like a hurricane, I am a tree

Bending beneath the weight of His wind and mercy

When all of a sudden I am unaware of these afflictions

Eclipsed by glory and I realize just how beautiful You are

And how great Your affections are for me

And oh, how He loves us, oh

Oh, how He loves us, how He loves us all

He is jealous for me, loves like a hurricane, I am a tree

Bending beneath the weight of His wind and mercy

When all of a sudden I am unaware of these afflictions

Eclipsed by glory and I realize just how beautiful You are

And how great Your affections are for me

I hope you all get a chance this summer to go and just sit to be amazed at His creation. Let Him speak to you through the breezes, rain falling, leaves whistling, waves breaking or just your backyard birds chirping.
