ABC’s Of Faith

I recently listened to a sermon series and heard the pastor refer to the ABC’s or building blocks of Faith.

The building blocks of Faith

A-agree

B-believe

C-confess

The word of God over your life and circumstances in order to build your faith.

I got an image of a child playing with blocks and how sometimes they are put out of order. Like for example the C first, which sometimes we do have to confess the word in order to begin to really believe the word and to finally come into total agreement with the word.

I loved this visual and simple analogy.

Sometimes it is not enough to just believe, we must agree and confess also. It doesn’t matter what order they come in as long as you have these basic ABC’s.

So I encourage you; when you are unsure of your circumstances or how something could possibly ever turn around or change – go to your building blocks- come back to the ABC’s of Faith. Begin to Agree, Believe, and Confess the Word of God over your life and circumstances and you will see your Faith build and grow.

Faith is daring the soul to go beyond what the eyes can see.

I dare you- I double dog dare you to give it a try!

for we walk by faith, not by sight living our lives in a manner consistent with our confident belief in God’s promises—   ~2 Corinthians 5:7 AMP

Shot Of Adrenaline

Living an abundant life sometimes requires that we get rid of a few things first.

Sometimes we must delegate, relinquish control or simply say no to some things so we can say yes to God and what He has purposed for us.

But how do we do all that when we feel so defeated, burnt out, overwhelmed, overlooked, rejected, spread too thin, and don’t have a clue where to even begin…..

Here’s the good news:

When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility He plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls!

Even if you don’t like shots – this is one everyone will love.

There is an exhilarating finish in store!

               ~XXOO Michelle Bollom

Do you see what this means—all these pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we’d better get on with it. Strip down, start running—and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins. Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever. And now he’s there, in the place of honor, right alongside God. When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls! ~ Hebrews 12:1-3 MSG

Don’t Let Struggles Steal Your Breath

When fear feels bigger than my faith

And struggles steals my breath away

When my back pressed up against the wall

With the weight of my worries stacked up tall…..

I’ll trade the troubles of this world

For your peace inside my soul

I will cast my cares on you

You’re the anchor of my hope

The only one who’s in control

I will cast my cares on you….

There is Freedom when you lay it all on His shoulders. Cast your cares! Don’t let struggles steal your breath.

Cast My Cares – by Finding Favor

Lyrics:

“Cast My Cares”

When fear feels bigger than my faith

And struggles steals my breath away

When my back pressed up against the wall

With the weight of my worries stacked up tall

You’re strong enough to hold it all
I will cast my cares on you

You’re the anchor of my hope

The only one who’s in control

I will cast my cares on you

I’ll trade the troubles of this world

For your peace inside my soul
This war’s not what I would have chosen

But you see the future no one knows yet

And you’re still good when I can’t

See the working of your hands

You’re holding it all
I will cast my cares on you

You’re the anchor of my hope

The only one who’s in control

I will cast my cares on you

I’ll trade the troubles of this world

For your peace inside my soul
I’m finding there’s freedom,

When I lay it all on your shoulders
Cast my cares I will, cast my cares I will, cast my cares on you

Cast my cares I will, cast my cares I will, cast my cares on you

Cast my cares I will, cast my cares I will, cast my cares on you
I will cast my cares on you

You’re the anchor of my hope

The only one who’s in control

I will cast my cares on you

I’ll trade the troubles of this world

For your peace inside my soul
I will cast my cares on you

You’re the anchor of my hope

The only one who’s in control

I will cast my cares on you

I’ll trade the troubles of this world

For your peace inside my soul
Cast my cares I will, cast my cares I will, cast my cares on you

The Shores Of My Soul

I have had this album for awhile.  I have heard the song countless times, but this week – I really heard it!

On the shores of my soul
I give You permission
To wash my tears away
And take all my disappointment
[and] fill me with joy once again

On the shores of my soul

Now that is a great use of wording here- so I looked up the definition of “Shore”.

Shore-the land between ordinary high- and low-water marks.  A country or other geographic area bounded by a coast.
Shore-a prop or beam set obliquely against something weak or unstable as a support.
the land between ordinary high and lows…. WoW-
A prop or beam set against something weak or unstable as a support….Double WoW!

So on the shore ( the place between my highs & lows) there is a prop and support set against my weak and unstable soul.
Have you ever felt like you have cried way too many tears ? Like the hurt and disappointments have been piling on top of each other and produced a huge surplus of tears.  I picture God operating a big conveyor belt full of bottles -sort of like God’s own bottling and manufacturing company.   Instead of Coca Cola or RC or Mr. Pibb, it is my tears -Michelle’s own special blend-God is busy bottling up.

I give You Permission

What? You mean God doesn’t just come in and wash away the surplus of tears (halt production) or take away the disappointments? (Box them up and ship them off)

No.
We have to invite Him in and ask Him to wash the tears and remove the disappointments.
Like the song goes on to say, we are free and out of the cage but we like to stay perched up on it not flying off to better days, we prefer sometimes to sit stewing in our messes and rehearsing our hurts.

But if we get up high enough, above the shame and loneliness, and we let God’s kindness lift our gaze so we look at things the way He sees them, we will see His way is much better.  We ask Him to remove and wash all the junk out of our souls.
That leaves us freed up to keep singing His praise, Singing our songs of victory and deliverance.  We keep choosing to be filled with His Joy!
And definitely we sing so loud it rings in all the Earth.

On The Shores
By Melissa Helser

On the shores of my soul
I give You permission
To wash my tears away
And take all my disappointment
[and] fill me with joy once again
[repeat]

I’m gonna sing out loud
And let my voice be heard
It’s a song of victory
And it’s ringing in the earth
[repeat]

On the top of my cage I am sitting
Above the shame so lonely
Your kindness it has lifted me
To see the way that You see

I’m gonna sing out loud
And let my voice be heard
It’s a song of victory
And it’s ringing in the earth
[repeat]

Hallelujah, hallelujah
Hallelujah, hallelujah
[repeat]

Hallelujah, hallelujah
I’m gonna let my voice be heard
[hallelujah, hallelujah] It’s a song of victory
[hallelujah, hallelujah] and it’s ringing in the earth

Hallelujah, hallelujah
Hallelujah, hallelujah

Soul Dimensions

Our soul within the confines of our body is bound by geo coordinates wherever we are but one day, our soul will have celestial coordinates unbounded by latitude and longitude. I sometimes set my soul’s coordinates based on what is before me. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about gratitude and the depth of my own “soul dimensions.” By faith, my capacity to praise and glorify God regardless of what I see before me.

gees002

32°4′42.08″N 87°16′49.33″W are the geo coordinates to Gee’s Bend, AL and the town where Arlonzia Pettway was living when she asked the Lord what He wanted her to do in His vineyard. He told her to sing.  She stopped praying and asked Him again, because she loved to sing but really wasn’t a singer. God showed her again “standing singing” and sing she has for over 40 years, along with her quilting group, “The White Rose.” Singing, quilting and praying with a community of women whose slave and share cropping heritage quilted out of necessity for warmth. Made from dress and shirt tails – parts of the clothes not too worn, and flour and cornmeal sacks bleached with hand picked cotton for inner lining. Whatever they had, they were thankful for. They, “Didn’t buy nothin, ‘cause we didn’t have nothin’ to buy nothin’ with.”  (The Quilts of Gee’s Bend).

So they removed the stone. Then Jesus raised His eyes, and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me.  John 11:41

Jesus had expectant gratitude, anticipating the miracle as the stone before Lazarus’ tomb was rolled away. Gratitude wasn’t a polite, “Thanks God, that was a close one back with the demon possessed pigs.” Jesus displayed His gratitude by a total glorification of God whether through a prayer of thanks for bread and fish meals multiplied, defying any potluck dinner. So, it’s safe to say that Jesus expressed His gratitude outside of a meal, a church service and a miracle.

At a distance, ten lepers spent their days shouting, “Unclean” for anyone and everyone to hear until they saw Jesus enter their village.  Until the ONE, Jesus Christ, heard them.

“Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” 14 He looked at them and said, “Go show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed of their leprosy. 15 One of them, when he saw that he was healed, came back to Jesus, shouting, “Praise God!” 16 He fell to the ground at Jesus’ feet, thanking him for what he had done. This man was a Samaritan.

One healed man whose geo coordinates had been set by his disease. But when he saw Jesus, his soul dimension of faith, repositioned him ready to glorify God. Today, I pray we chart our soul coordinates on the unseen and through faith in Jesus Christ, we can stand confidently becoming all that He has in mind for us to be and do.

For because of our faith, he has brought us into this place of highest privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to actually becoming all that God has had in mind for us to be.  Romans 5:2

All Is Well

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/bca/70503914/files/2015/01/img_0739.jpg

I was in the kitchen cooking the other day and as the radio shuffled through several songs, this one struck me. As I listened to these words I was filled with such immense gratitude that at this very moment I indeed did feel that “All Is Well” with my soul.

As someone that lived many years with my soul in turmoil and not realizing it was so fragmented, I was anything but well. I had experienced so much fracturing in my life. (You can find my Broken Girl Story for all the details in our Blog Archives)

As the song played I found myself reflecting back on how far Jesus has brought me. I thought of the shame and secrets of my past that had kept me in bondage.
I thought of the trials and losses in my life that almost shattered me. I was overcome with such emotion as I thought about my life and my story. I felt more peace than I had ever known. I thought about where I have been and where I was today. I stood in awe thinking how beautifully God has written my story as I learned to hand over all the brokenness to Him. He is the Great Restorer!

The Bridge of the song came on and one thing I know now for sure is:

Through it all our eyes have to be on God only to get us through each trial we will face.

Close your eyes and sing these words with the song:
So let go my soul and trust in Him
The waves and wind still know His name”

And declare “It Is Well … With My Soul”

Sing or play the song over and over until you start to feel His Presence fill and repair every fragmented and broken part of your soul.

“It Is Well” by Bethel

Verse 1
Grander earth has quaked before
Moved by the sound of His voice
Seas that are shaken and stirred
Can be calmed and broken for my regard

Chorus
Through it all, through it all
My eyes are on You
Through it all, through it all
It is well

Through it all, through it all
My eyes are on You
It is well with me

Verse 2
Far be it from me to not believe
Even when my eyes can’t see

And this mountain that’s in front of me
Will be thrown into the midst of the sea

Bridge
So let go my soul and trust in Him
The waves and wind still know His name

It is well with my soul
It is well with my soul
It is well with my soul
It is well with my soul
