The Sound Of Silence

This video was going viral on the Internet and after seeing it appear numerous times I decided to click.

WOW!

I was a heavy metal fan back in my younger days. (Ok well, not too much but just enough to appreciate a really good one.)

So I listened and watched this very creative video of a classic remake and I felt like this band was trying to get out a much deeper message….. Do you agree?

Sound of Silence performed by Disturbed original by Simon & Garfunkel

Unvoiced

Buildings layered upon the ground
In rows outnumbered
People walking, their feet trampling
The original painting
Orchestrated perfectly in tune
But now broken
Forever reused
By ignorance, for applause
And we only know what else
Disfigured in view by all
Those who’ve blistered the face
Again and again
In case they missed something
From the last time
Their hands wrung out the weary place
In the eyes of a wrecked child
Bruised
Internally: masked outwardly
Of identity once owned
The very thing once possessed
But now stranded in other’s vomit
Which isn’t their fault
But blamed for it
As if it were their choice to be unvoiced
Of the awakening of rebirth within
Blinded ignorance disguised as Compassion
A cause worth laying down another’s life for
But all a scheme of hell to never be helped
Forced out of the dark curtains clothing
The fragmented flesh screaming out
For some affection, attention to be noticed
But all is in effect of the movement
Music that’s only heard through the heart
Beating, pulsing within every fiber owned
In unison of the last breath plugged into now
Times are gone before, but begging for more
Reasoning with realities apologies doesn’t cut
Breadcrumbs on the dirt floor of victims tears
Reminiscing in last nights fierce encounter
With the enemy, against all odds in war
That battle within one fights all alone
Without backup from love
Compassion, or understanding
Catching moonlit sky in a cracked jar
Pushing back the cosmos of tomorrow’s threats
To kill ones corpse in anger
If the victim tells a stranger
Of the cold war fought
Children being mocked and stripped of identity
Forced and manipulated
To do favors for enemies
Deceived within
That they are nothing more
Than that dirty sand
One walks on from time to time
That binds the earth into affect
Of today’s plan

Silence Is Powerful

Just scrolling through Facebook or Twitter on any given day you will see debate after debate. Some like controversy.  Others like to stir the proverbial pot.

What God has shown me lately is that everyone’s hot button topics are different and just because someone doesn’t jump on the same bandwagon as you do with the same passion as you do does not make them wrong. We can disagree and dislike things but still love each other.

We are not called to champion every cause or atrocity or phishing post or tweet we encounter. Sometimes God calls some of us to be silent and to pray, or just to keep scrolling because our opinion is not needed.

Some do not deserve to be told an answer as Jesus chose in Mark 11:33, because some contend and debate issues not for the truth, but instead for the victory or having the last word. Some even already know the real answer but choose to reject it based on emotions or going along with the crowd.
We should choose wisely what we say, what we answer to and how we behave. If it doesn’t glorify God- don’t say or do it!

We must endeavor in relations to behave ourselves so as to put to silence the unreasonable reproaches of the most ignorant and foolish of people. (Matthew Henry Commentary for 1 Peter 2:15)

There is no condition or cause or post or tweet or viral video so mean and horrible that a person may live conscientiously in it and still glorify God.  (Paraphrased and added to from Matthew Henry commentary on 1 Peter 2:19-22)

My choice to not engage in the disputes or debates or jump on bandwagons or like your viral video does not mean I am less passionate or intelligent, nor am I passively just idly sitting by twiddling my thumbs-or my brains have fallen out…or I don’t have a voice….

It means I see through the facades and like Jesus- choose not to answer or engage. I choose to be silent because sometimes Silence is Powerful!

For it is the will of God by doing right that you may silence (muzzle, gag) the [culpable] ignorance and irresponsible criticisms of foolish people. ~ 1 Peter 2:15 AMP

For this finds favor, if a person endures the sorrow of suffering unjustly because of an [awareness of [the will of] God. After all, what kind of credit is there if, when you do wrong and are punished for it, you endure it patiently? But if when you do what is right and patiently bear [undeserved] suffering, this finds favor with God.

Christ Is Our Example

For [as a believer] you have been called for this purpose, since Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you may follow in His footsteps. He committed no sin, nor was deceit ever found in His mouth. ~1 Peter 2:19-22 AMP

So they replied to Jesus, “We do not know.” And Jesus said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.” ~Mark 11:33 AMP
