WORTHY THOUGHT: Are we selfishly clinging to our rights or are you willingly to serve.

As believers, we should have an attitude that enables us to give up our rights for the good of others- in order to serve others. If we say we follow Christ we must also say we want to live as he lived, we should develop his attitude of humble service, even when we are not likely to get recognition for our efforts.

When we feel the pain of our sacrifice- we know that we are really giving up something important.

Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. -Philippians 2:3-4

WORTHY THOUGHT: If we don’t pass our values onto all of our children someone else will.

I was thinking back on my last mission’s group trip.

We visited a children’s orphanage in San Lucas Guatemala.

The children were so delighted to see us; we played games, did arts and crafts, and shared Bible stories. We wanted all the children to understand and know Jesus is with them and loves each one of them.

The children may not have their parents today, but I am thankful for the Godly people who do work tirelessly there in the orphanage. They are hard working people with huge hearts, hugs and warm smiles and they allow us to come into their orphanage to minister and love on their children.

Maybe this will convince you to go visit an orphanage in your area in your country. Maybe even to adopt. Each child is a gift from God.

Bible verses helps us understand what the Bible says about all of our children, the importance of raising and teaching our children.

Remember the Bible tells us not to merely listen to the word of God but to do what it says (James 1:22). Take what you read here, write it down and put it into action!

I pray that God speaks to you and touches your heart with these Scriptures

Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.

Isaiah 54:13 All your children shall be taught by the LORD, and great shall be the peace of your children.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.

Proverbs 29:15 The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child left to himself brings shame to his mother

Proverbs 29:17 Discipline your son, and he will give you rest; he will give delight to your heart.

Ephesians 6:4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

Psalm 127:3-5 Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.

Father God,

We thank you for all of our children we know that each and every child is fearfully and wonderfully made by You to do works in Jesus Christ. Amen.

It Mattered

For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. -2 Corinthians 2:15 NIV

Last week, I was reading about a woman’s quest to be intentional as she extended herself to three strangers in an act of kindness. I liked the idea so much that I decided to join her. That particular morning, the sun was shining brightly upon our town and it made the challenge that much more exciting. My attention was drawn to a particular man. It wasn’t just the fact that my heart sank as I watched him digging through garbage cans for bottles and food, it was also the way the sun highlighted his face. He was on a mission. The large bag on the back of his bicycle displayed the many hours of hard work by its height. It also seemed to represent another product of a life, wounded-ness.

I took a moment and watched him as I conversed with the Lord. I couldn’t help but wonder how he got to this place. Did he have a family? If so, did they try to help him? What areas of his life were broken? What scars left him to feel as if he were worth nothing more than the scraps inside a garbage can? I decided to get a warm meal and bring it back to him. As I approached the area where his bicycle was parked, I took a moment to pray. Then I asked, “Can I offer you a meal?” More than anything, I wanted him to know…I noticed. I wanted him to know that God noticed him. I handed him the food. He smiled slightly, in a coy way. Though the smile emerged, it was accompanied by a sense of shame that surrounded him. The way he said thank you was telling. His voice was soft and sweet, but his eyes said something different as they lowered to the ground. No other words needed to be spoken, I could tell that it mattered to him.

He went back to his quest. And as I was driving away, I thought about how many people probably passed him by that day. I also thought about the people that didn’t notice him at all. Then I looked within my own heart and questioned it. Would I have noticed him had I not been intentionally challenged that day? How many of us have become desensitized to the pain that lives deeply in the heart of others? How many of us get too busy to even notice? It made me think about all the times that I had felt overlooked, the times I was saturated in darkness and simply needed someone to take notice of my pain.

I wonder how many times you have gone through places in your life where you found yourself desperately seeking to fill the void, needing someone to come and meet you right where you were at, in your struggle. We all have been at these places at some point. No one is exempt from experiencing pain from this world. It can seem so cold, at times. Many of us go on coping in different ways. Some of us will find healing, some of us will continue to stay stuck. But what if we could be confident, knowing we do not have to carry the burden alone? We are not ignored by the God who created us. He knows our darkest hour, he is there when we are suffering. He knows our pain. He knows our life-story. He knows because he is the one who designed our hearts in the image of his.

Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. Hebrews 4:13 NIV

Today, if you find yourself in a place of darkness, a place of weariness, please consider the comfort knowing you are not alone. There is someone who wants to meet you in this place. God wants to walk with you on your journey. He wants you to know, I want you to know, you are noticed, and YOU MATTER!

Lord, my heart cries out for all of your children who are struggling in darkness. Open troubled hearts. Increase the desire to know you more. Today, wrap the wounded in Your presence, Lord. Give them a place of comfort and rest in You. Bring light to their dark places, right now, and in this moment, as they are reading this. Speak softly, so that their ears can be open to hear You, Lord. I have seen Your power work in my own life. I believe in Your abundant work of restoration in their life. Help bring someone into their life that will walk with them with intentional notice. May the hurting meet You in the place You have been waiting, always.

In Jesus Name, I pray, Amen.

God Is Enough

Have you ever stopped and wondered if God had a bucket list? Would He have made a list that included watching His only son Jesus be tortured, crucified, dead and buried? I am sure if He did make a list it would include all of the wonderful things that He accomplished. Feeding 5000 with 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish from a little boy (John 6:5-13), Parting the Red Sea (Exodus 14:18,31), making the blind able to see and the lame able to walk. All just in a day’s work for God!

There are wonderful places to visit and things to do, and there is nothing wrong with that. But I have decided that a bucket list should actually be a short one for me. I may be able to go places and be blessed enough to do things I might desire to do in this life, but I want my main focus to always be Christ centered and all of the things on my bucket list be only things that would result in His glorification.

Sabrina’s Bucket List:

1: Live for God, solely for Him and have a relationship with Him that

HE desires

2: Share His name, His word and His works with others. After all this

again is something He desires and asks of us

3: Lead others to Him. This is what we are called to do as children of

God and yet another of His desires

See, I truly want my bucket list to be the things that God desires of me. I want to always be one with a servant’s heart. A willing vessel and spirit that will do whatever it is He calls me to do at any moment. I want….His love to shine from me and for others to know without a doubt that when they see me, they see Jesus. I want…. to share His word with others so that they may come to know Him. I want…. to praise Him all of my days, both the good and the bad for after all any day given to us is from God.

I believe if I am able to do all of these things, all of the places I may want to go, or things I may want to see will all just be blessings granted to me by God for being a good and faithful servant. Nothing in life is free and the price Jesus paid on the cross for our sins certainly is the biggest price of all. How hard should it be for us to attempt to repay such a debt? It shouldn’t be. We should all wish to live for Him just as He was willing to die for us. In my eyes, that is not asking too much at all. In fact, I feel I could NEVER do enough but God is enough!

Philippians 4:13

I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me

Why have I waited to really see this now? Because due to my own serious health issues and suffering losses all around me, it made me begin to wonder. God was writing my bucket list this entire time. I learned to trust Him and have faith that He was working all the while for my good. And I learned to be still. Trusting Him and having faith in His plan led me straight to Compassion That Compels. He brought me right into exactly what He wanted me to be doing. This ministry has become so close to my heart and a huge part of my life that I could never thank Him enough for the trials I endured. I am grateful for those valleys He led me out of, only to lead me straight to Kristianne and Compassion That Compels! He knew what He was doing all along. He only needed me to trust.

Psalm 46:10

Be still and know that I am God

I will never doubt Him again! And in return, my bucket list-my priorities have completely changed for the best! I challenge you to do two things. Sit down and write your bucket list and see where God ranks on that list! If He isn’t at the top, put Him there. And also at the end of the week, sit down and write your list of things you’ve done for God that week. It may not be a long list but it’s a start! Remember, every page starts blank. Every day with Jesus is a clean slate. It’s up to you to write it and to live it!

Isaiah 41:13

For I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you

Alternate Routes

I was shopping the other day and the department store had a great song playing I had never heard before.  I had to look it up and found that it was “Nothing More” by the band The Alternate Routes.
Interesting name for a band.
The chorus speaks volumes:
We are Love
We are One
We are how we treat each other when the day is done.
We are Peace
We are War
We are how we treat each other and Nothing More
But let’s look at the rest of the great lyrics to this song….

To be humble, to be kind.
It is the giving of the peace in your mind.
To a stranger, To a friend
To give in such a way that has no end.

I started thinking of some alternates throughout the song:

Humble or Proud

Kind or Rude

Give or Take

Friend or Stranger

Peace or War

One or More

Darkness or Light

Love or Anger

Give or Take

Beginning or End

We are Love
We are One
We are how we treat each other when the day is done.
We are Peace
We are War
We are how we treat each other and Nothing More

And then there was this great part in the lyrics…

To be bold, to be brave.
It is the thinking that the heart can still be saved
And the darkness can come quick
The Dangers in the Anger and the hanging on to it.

The Dangers in the Anger– and hanging on to it!

We are Love
We are One
We are how we treat each other when the day is done.
We are Peace
We are War
We are how we treat each other and Nothing More

And then these lyrics:

Tell me what it is that you see
A world that’s filled with endless possibilities?
Heroes don’t look like they used to, they look like you do.

What do you see? Do you see a hero staring back at you in the mirror? Do you see the alternate routes available to you as you travel this life? Do you see endless possibilities? Are you bold and brave? Humble and kind?

Let go of all the anger.  We can be peace or we can be war- but we can’t be both at the same time.  May we always choose the right and best alternate routes.  We are how we treat each other and nothing more.

We are Love
We are One
We are how we treat each other when the day is done.
We are Peace
We are War
We are how we treat each other and Nothing More

Nothing More by The Alternate Routes

Turn up the volume & Enjoy this great song!
