The Burning Within

The Burning Within

By RaNelle Wallace with Curtis Taylor

On October 9, 1985, RaNelle and Terry Wallace tried to fly their single-engine airplane through a snowstorm in central Utah.  They became disoriented and crashed against the side of a mountain, turning their small craft into a raging inferno. Terry emerged almost unscathed, but RaNelle suffered severe burns and died six hours later in an ambulance.  What happened to her then has captured the hearts of thousands who have heard of her incredible journey beyond this life.

The hardcover sleeve states that The Burning Within is a gripping view of the tenacity and majesty of the human spirit.

After reading this book I can confidently say that it is so much more than that.

Rarely has it ever been so easy to see the hand of God.  The words in this book will cause a stirring in your spirit.

The explanation of our relationship with God, our presence in heaven and on earth, and the relationship between our flesh selves and our spirits reads as perfect fact.

“Our ability to accept truth, to live by it, governs our progress in the spirit, and it determines the degree of light we possess.  Pg 98

“It is within the simple principles of the gospel that the mysteries of heaven are found.” Pg 105

While the author’s personal journey and struggle to recover and heal from her wounds is an important story with great lessons for all of us, the spiritual experience of dying and seeing heaven is riveting.

“I understood every reason for everything I did in my life.  And I also understood the impact I had on others.”  Pg 91

“I saw that we all stood before our Father before coming to earth, brothers and sisters in eternity.  I experienced this anew, just as I had experienced it in my own pre-mortal life.  I saw that we chose to come here, to face trials and to gain experiences of this earth.  I saw that we elected to follow a Savior who would redeem us from the sins of our mortal lives and bring us back to our Father.  I felt love and joy sweep over me again as we accepted Jesus Christ as that Savior.” Pg 106

There is so much to be learned from this book.

Expect an impact on your personal spiritual growth.

Soak it in and share it with others.

Summer Selection – On The Edge

Dive off the Edge into an Adventure in the Unseen Realm

Well, can you believe it’s that time of year again? “Summer Fun in the Sun” is how I like to refer to this season that so faithfully arrives this year on June 20, 2016. Of course for many of us it arrives right after the last day of school for some that still have kiddos at home.
There seems to be more time to read a good book when you can take it with you to the pool, lake, beach, cabin, mountains, or just to your most comfy chair outside.
I landed upon a book last week. Thanks to Amazon Prime I received it in three days.

A Novel of Spiritual Warfare

On The Edge by F. Parker Hudson

The synopsis on back cover reads.

Richard Sullivan thought he had it all until he faced the consequences of his actions…

Richard Sullivan has a problem. His average American family is on the edge of ruin and they don’t even realize it. The Sullivans are struggling through every day life with the dark power over them so strong that they cannot find their way-a power that is filling their minds with voices of greed, hate, pride and temptation. And now the very fabric of their lives is unraveling before their eyes. If only they would listen a little harder to the other voice trying to get through to them-the voice of hope, forgiveness and love before it’s too late.

It was published in 1994. Seriously, I have never heard of this book or this author. Sorry, Mr.Hudson where have you been hiding this book that I couldn’t find you until 2016. This author does a fabulous job revealing the hidden spiritual battle going on all around our families.
It’s a timely book in a timely season.

Book Two begins on page 209.

We are always given the choice which direction we want to go in our lives. Who do we listen to the voices of reason or voices of treason. Ultimately, greed, hate, pride and temptation end up betraying us and leading us down a path of death and destruction. Book Two recounts what might have happened to the Sullivan family had they had another outcome. What if all along the way they chose to listen to the voices that lead to a prosperous life full of good reason?

As I read this book and put it down I can’t escape it. I am constantly reminded that every action, deed, thought and the words I speak are being evaluated by an unseen highly organized system. It reminds me of the Star Wars series. There are the forces of light and the forces of darkness. Both operating as they are commanded and dispatched. We don’t realize the role we play or are played by these forces.

I am currently in the middle of Book Two and quite relieved that the outcome can be altered if I choose to be aware, intentional and in tune to the what the Holy Spirit is speaking to me each day.
I will be honest I get overwhelmed and discouraged at times when I see all the changes in our society that negatively affect our young people and the future generations to come.

I often ask myself how do I come up against all that is infecting this generation. I have three kids who are in that generation. I am reminded through this book many valuable lessons of spiritual warfare that I can walk away with and feel confident that I can make difference in my family and all those that are in my field of influence.
My biggest weapon is POP

Power of Prayer

Open up my eyes, ears and heart to the power of prayer. Empower me to walk in the authority of that privilege that was granted to me through the power of the cross in Christ Jesus.

-Colonel Kelley, reporting to duty

Ephesians 6:12

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

On The Edge – A Novel of Spiritual Warfare

Sensible Shoes by Sharon Garlough Brown

Brown tells a fictional story of 4 women who are all at a different intersection of their life. All four are faced with the internal struggle of choosing to let the past control them or embrace the redemption and new life Christ has to offer them.

Meg has found herself alone in her mother’s house mourning the loss of her mother and husband’s death after her daughter departs to go overseas to college. She is left living with the ghosts of her pasts and deciding if it is time to sell her home and put those ghosts to rest or continue to live in the comfortable present.

Hannah, a church minister, has devoted her life to Christ and serving other’s in His name. She gave up everything to serve God including the idea of marriage and children. After being forced into a 9 month sabbatical by her lead pastor she has to face the loss of her entire identity and everything her life stood for….and all the pain her life represents.

Mara has forever been the rejected child. Rejected by her family, her husband, her sons and her peers. All she has ever longed for is acceptance and to become one of the popular girls in school…or at least let them feel the pain she felt every time they made fun of her. Can she ever find it in her heart to accept herself if no one can?

Charissa lived her life making all the right choices. She was raised in the right family with the right social connections. She went to the right college and married the right man. Everything in her life was perfectly planned and she always had the right answer to anything she had to face. Until the day she was faced with not having the answers to her biggest fear and the one thing she did not want to be….becoming a mother. Can she find it in her heart to walk in the role she has been called to?

All four women are called into the journey of facing their past and the current circumstances they find themselves in. What will each of them chose and will God really help them to accept where their lives are headed despite their past?

This is a quick easy read and would give it a 3.5 out of 5 ⭐️

Trying Something New

Argentina pink shrimp …..

My girlie yesterday on the phone said our HEB had them and they were delicious.

I had been giving shrimp a little break and was in HEB today when I saw them and being the foodie that I am – I had to try them.

Plus they were already shelled and deveined at $8.97 a pound so I thought- why not?

A cheap couple of meals.

I decided to sauté them with just a little butter and garlic. I noticed they cooked very quick.
I then sautéed baby Bella mushrooms and garlic with green onions which when paired with the shrimp made for a pretty tasty lunch… with tons of leftovers.

I will use the rest of the shrimp with an Asian chopped salad. (That is how my girlie recommended them)

I had confused these with possible tiger shrimp but in fact they are not.

They were good…. Different … Almost like a lobster texture and a little sweeter than most shrimp.

This southern coast girl prefers her gulf shrimp with a more salty taste but for wild caught and cleaned you can’t beat it! I will say I much preferred these to the Florida Pink Rock shrimp which I thought were flavorless and overpriced.

Anything of course is good with a little butter and a whole lotta garlic though…

Happy Eating! #YummO

Does This Shoe Fit You?

My takeaway notes from the movie: yes, I take notes at movies….don’t judge!!!

Have courage and be kind

The greatest risk is
to be seen as we truly are

Take me as I am

I forgive you

See the world not as it is but as it could be

If you only believe

I just went to see the movie Cinderella. My girls wouldn’t go with me. So my mom and I drug my seven year old niece to it yesterday. Now granted she had already seen it last week. She was doing me a favor by obliging to go with me.
Let me back up and say I am a huge Cinderella fan with quite the active imagination. I grew up in the 70’s watching the original Disney edition of Cinderella. We had the bulky VHS tapes back in the day of waiting to rewind and fast forward.
I still remember that I too fell in love with the prince and cried when the clock struck midnight and Cinderella’s dream was snatched away as she raced away in her carriage through the forest.
I have probably seen all the movies and Cinderella book editions that were ever created or published. I remember when I taught third grade language arts and we studied several different cultural adaptions of the story of Cinderella. It seems the story goes way back and continues to still resonate with a wide audience.

I never really put much thought into the story comparing it to my relationship with Jesus until just recently I had a revelation.

Not too long ago I was nestled away in a cabin surrounded by a dark forest. Seven dwarfs or rather a couple of friends were spending the weekend with me. Any excuse to get away and have some fun with your friends. We had spent some time reading scripture and journaling. We purposely positioned ourselves to be alone and quiet as to hear the still voice inside of each of us. Sometimes we have to be intentional on being quiet and still to hear what the Holy Spirit is whispering to us
This day I got a whole earful on Cinderella and how Jesus wants to be my Prince Charming.
I know your thinking, “That’s a weird thought.”.
Keep in mind God knows my inner thoughts and desires before I was even born.
Remember He knows all my stuff all the way back to my desires and thoughts as a child.

Jeremiah 1:5
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

Psalm 139:2
“You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.”

Our Father knows how to individually speak to us like no one else could possibly imagine.

I wish I could find my journal to share exactly what He revealed to me that day out in the woods.  The main point was that I got the revelation that He too was pursuing me like the prince was searching out for his lost princess.

Does this shoe fit you?

Are you longing for someone to fill that void of discontentment ?

Are you wishing someone would come and rescue you out of your mundane life of cinders?

Maybe you never thought of Jesus being one who pursues you and desires to dance with you as you walk out the details of your everyday life.

John 14:21
“He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.”

Bippity boppity boo

You too can experience your Prince Charming without any midnight strikes turning you and your things back into old rags, cinders, pumpkins, lizards or rats.

John 10:10 (The Message)
” A thief is only there to steal and kill and destroy. I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.”

“Why do some persons ‘find’ God in a way that others do not? Why does God manifest His Presence to some and let multitudes of others struggle along in the half-light of imperfect Christian experience? Of course the will of God is the same for all. He has no favorites within His household. All He has ever done for any of His children He will do for all of His children. The difference lies not with God but with us.”
A.W. Tozer, The Pursuit of God

Get out of the woods and ask Him for that first dance?

BTW, I give the Cinderella movie three thumbs up. Go see it!!

50 Shades of Grey Happens

“Fifty Shades of Grey” hits theaters on February 14, 2015 this year. Valentine’s Day is the perfect day to share this inspiring movie with your special someone. This movie is based on the best selling book, “Fifty Shades of Grey”. It perfectly demonstrates the true love that emerges between two people emotionally connecting all the while trying to find their ways in this world.

Hold it right there!!

Have I read this book??

So! I’m really not the best one to give advice on a movie I haven’t seen or a book I have not read.
However, these facts I have read.

To be fair I’m not the expert. I’m just a mom who cares about our kids and this future generation. Hoping they will learn to connect with each other in healthy respectful ways.
Of course you can decide based on your own beliefs or lack of beliefs about the appropriateness of these books and future movies.

-Junior high and high school girls are reading these series of books in huge numbers.(ages 12-18)

– Many Christian moms and grandmas are reading it and going on to read the next two books in the trilogy to complete the story without any moral discussion or objection (ages 19-90)

I learned this from Wikipedia:
The second and third volumes, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed, were published in 2012. Fifty Shades of Grey has topped best-seller lists around the world, including those of the United Kingdom and the United States. The series has sold over 100 million copies worldwide and been translated into 52 languages, and set a record in the United Kingdom as the fastest-selling paperback of all time.

It’s spreading like wild fire!!

It has been penned, “Mommy porn” and is considered a forerunner in creating a new genre with the same name.

Changing the literary scene.

*The owner of the Damson Dane Hotel opted to replace all the Bibles in the hotel nightstands with Fifty Shades of Grey.

Making a spiritual statement

*Sales of duct tape, cable ties and rope at a hardware store skyrocketed after the books release in Pennsylvania thanks to the bondage scenes in the book.

Hardware stores profiting

*The author writes her sex scenes to music. She said, “I have songs that I write the sex scenes to. One of them is the Black Eyed Peas song ‘Sexy’ That is a very sexual song.

Music matters

*Sex toy sales went up drastically since the book came out. Sales of love beads or “smart or love balls” alone have went up 400% after Anastasia Steel enjoyed them in the book.

*The books were developed from a Twilight fanfiction, originally titled Master of the Universe. James removed her fan-fiction from the various websites after comments were made about the sexual content concerning characters Edward Cullen and Bella Swan. After its removal, James rewrote and extended her story, making it an original trilogy.

Why it’s called “Twilight for Adults”.

*Fifty Shades of Grey has actually been banned from several libraries in the United States due to it’s graphic nature and not ‘meeting guidelines’.

* These facts above were found on Sliptalk
21 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About “Fifty Shades Of Grey”

Let me introduce to you the theme that the movie is centered around.

I had to look it up to see what it stands for and means.

(I’ve been a little sheltered)

1: Sadism and Masochism

The practice of using pain as a sexual stimulant. Some variants of S&M include:

And so on…. A to Z.

Well, I’m not going to list what it includes. Honestly it’s just not appropriate. If I can’t say it around my teenagers without blushing that might be a clue. These are actually real activities that may appear innocent at first but lead to emotional, physical and spiritual bondage. They don’t call it bondage for nothing!!

The experimentation of S&M does not bring couples and marriages to a closer connection of intimacy and a respect for each other.
I am sure that even Dr. Phil would agree with me on this one.
This may be an issue of debate but remember I am choosing to see or not to see the movie based on my choice of what God’s Word says about the matter.

What does the Bible have to say?

I have no idea specifically so let me do some research.

Romans 12:10

10 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.

Philippians 2:3

3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.

Okay, seriously there are so many verses that discuss respect, honor and common sense of the do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Go for it!! You google it. I got enough with the first two.

The Golden Rule makes a good case for discussion.

How about just good common sense.

As I said earlier the movie centers on the theme of S&M. The main character Christian Grey (an interesting name for his character) is a incredibly successful and wealthy young entrepreneur who meets Anastasia. She is intrigued by his secret life and is drawn to him. Like many young ladies she finds herself falling for him and compromising her values and conscience to keep an on going relationship with him.

You don’t have to stick your head in a pile of 💩 to know that it really is poop.
Just take a sniff and let your senses be your guide.

I give Fifty Shades of 💩
Three thumbs down with a long pointy finger leading folks to:

Disrespected &

In my opinion, this is what you sign up for if you read or watch “Fifty Shades of 💩”.

Keep in mind the scripture verse below. Since we are dealing with a young fan base of readers and watchers, let’s take a look at the Message Version.

Philippians 4:8 The Message (MSG)

8-9 Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.

Would “50 Shades of Grey” meet the criteria above for things to think or ponder upon??

Important Headline:
Before we throw anybody under the bus who may have been involved in these activities or currently engage in them. Or perhaps out of curiosity read the books or watch the movie.
How about we have an open loving discussion with them.

It could go like this:

There really is no need to inflict pain on oneself or anyone else. Jesus paid it all on the cross. He took the whips, the beatings, the torture so we wouldn’t have to suffer here on this earth.

The enemy so brilliantly convinces people that pain will give them control over their struggles and shortcomings. A false relief that in reality brings more pain.
This is a lie some choose to believe. All one needs to break the lie is the truth. The truth sets us free!!

This verse in the Old Testament is speaking of our Messiah to come.

Isaiah 53:5
New Living Translation
“But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.”

The truth is Jesus came to set the captives free so we don’t have to reenact the captivity and bondage.
We actually have the capability to be set free from our sins and bondage by allowing Jesus to carry our sins to the cross for us.
It’s not necessary to read or watch the book or movie just to be innocently entertained, if you think it doesn’t affect you, I am sorry to say you are being deceived. I personally do not want the images, emotions or thoughts in my head related to such a dangerous slippery slope.

You decide whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are just and worthy ….think on these things.

Light On,
Kelley Allison
