Two Important Questions

Continually ask yourself the following two questions when dealing with others.

1. Has this person been placed in my life as a GIFT to help me GROW?

2. Has this person been placed in my life to DERAIL me from my DESTINY?

Evaluate whether your relationships are growing you or simply derailing you.

Are they faucets pouring into your life or a drain sucking everything out?

Make sure you are not staying just to be tolerated-good healthy and growing relationships celebrate each other.

Kind Wise And Gracious

The Lord is kind, wise, and gracious to all; he is never mean, foolish, or demanding; he meets & and accepts each of us right where we are, takes us by the hand, and leads us onward and upward into our heavenly places.
We walk right beside him; we sit right beside him; we talk with him face to face any moment we so choose, as long as we are willing to let him lead the way and have his way in us.

The Lord is kind. He is gentle. He is meek. He has not dealt with us according to our sins but according to his goodness and grace. Although he is firm and unyielding as regards to his glory and his ways, he is never harsh with us.

The Lord is wise. He knows just just how to deal with any given person or situation. He can compensate for our weaknesses and build us up in our strengths. He knows how to deal with enemies and with friends, with his family and with strangers. Nothing is too difficult for him. We will prevail if we learn to do his will, his way, in his time.

The Lord is gracious to all. He treats us all with the utmost respect and consideration. He will not violate our free will or force himself into our lives; we must invite him in. He treats us as if we are wise and noble and good, even as he is working those qualities into us.
We need not fear his rejection. Let us not reject his kind initiatives in our lives and we will grow to be just as kind, wise, and gracious as he is.

The Light Of Love

It was a year ago this week that I joined Welton Academy for a trip that would sharpen my perspective on what it means to love people always no matter what the circumstances or surroundings.

That is the good news that Jesus brought us and we are sent by Him to be that LOVE!!

Big God

Big hair

Big dreams

Big girls

Big world

Looking through our eyes back then

I swear, I see everything

We would have been

Had we paid the price

Put our time into spirit seed

Sowing prayers

Ushering in our lives

Our destinies

Big God

Big babies

Trying to find our way today

Pulling the weeds

And Filling the cracks

That we’ve allowed from self-centeredness

Feeding our flesh on trash

Reaping the storms of harvest

Lord willing

Lord tarry

We long to be more like You

Please carry us the rest of the way

We are weary on our own

On this road less traveled on

Broken fellowship with Jesus

Lead us Great Shepherd

Let us graze on Your Grace

No tears

No trace

Of the big mess we’ve made

With our lives

Saving ourselves with our big ideas

Lamenting years wasted

On our own doctrines

Deceived and shocked

By realities we’ve digested

Reflected on so long

We must be weaned

From our enemy

So we can be servants

Of the Most High God

And rule this world

For His Majesty

Destroying the unbelief we encounter

Big God

Your heart is what we are after

Following You as Your own shadow

Plantings of the Lord

For the display of Your splendor.

Spirit Of The Living God by Vertical Church Band

Verse 1:
Spirit of the living God,

Spirit of the living God

We only want to hear Your voice,

We’re hanging on every word

Cause when You speak, When You move

When You do what only You can do

It changes us, it changes what we see and what we seek

When You come in the room,

When You do what only You can do

It changes us, it changes what we see and what we seek

You’re changing everything

Verse 2:
Spirit of the living God,

Spirit of the living God

We’re leaning in to all you are

Everything else can wait

Spirit of the living God,

Spirit of the living God

Come now and breathe upon our hearts

Come now and have your way

When You move, You move all our fears

When You move, You move us to tears

When You move, You move all our fears

When You move, You move us to tears

When You fall, We fall on our knees

When You fall, We fall at Your feet

When You fall, We fall on our knees

When You fall, We fall at Your feet

Chorus (x2)

A mirror can be defined as something regarded as accurately representing something else.

James 1:23-25 “For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.”

Every morning, I use my mirror to prep myself for a day of work. The mirror to me is a reflection of what others see. About a week ago, I stopped for a minute and thought about what my reflection represents. I took another look into the mirror and looked deeper into my soul. In a moment of deep reflection, I asked myself:

1. What do I really see in this mirror?

2. Do I see myself as GOD sees me?

3. Am I reflecting a godly like image to others?

At that moment, I asked GOD to humbly come into my heart. I immediately started praying for myself and praying for others. It was such an Ah-ha moment. Here’s what I learned at that moment.

1. Many of us avoid mirrors because we are afraid of what we will see.

2. Many of us have a distorted view of what we see.

3. Many of us ignore what we see.

I learned that when we look in the mirror, some of us are crippled by fear, judgement, shame, guilt, worry, and stress. Often when we see these ailments, we ignore them and we operate through with a crippled state of mind. We become functionally mentally ill and sadly accept our lives as normal. I also learned that many times we avoid mirrors because we know that our baggage will be revealed and we feel so overwhelmed by the thought of letting go of the baggage, we tell ourselves it is easier to simply cope with it.

The reflection of what we see in the physical mirror is closely related to the reflection of what is seen through our spiritual mirror. When we open our hearts to GOD, we are forced to be honest with ourselves. God will show us the areas of life that we need to change. The word tells us to not only be hearers of the word; but doers of his word. When we adopt the practice of being doers, not just hearers, our reflections will change. Will we mirror a more Christ like life.

Decide who and what you want to accurately represent and watch GOD work!

I challenged you to move from a crippled state of mind and use GOD’s remedy, the word of GOD to help you use the mirror to:

1. Assess yourself spiritually

2. Align yourself with the word of god by doing.

3. Affirm the word and work of GOD by speaking life into your current image.

4. Choose to see yourself how God sees you.

Dear God,

Thank you for helping me to live out your word. Thank you so much for helping align myself with your word so that what others see is a reflection of you. Thank you for allowing me to see you as you see me.

We Are All Waiting

She waits for her son

He waits for his wife

She waits on the man

To break free from the child

We are all waiting…

Didn’t He say

It would be this way

Waiting on The Lord

If He would hurry!

Affording us the time

Of our lives

Hoping, praying, waiting

Trust being the vehicle

We all must ride

On a narrow path

With no headlight or brakes

We wait for a sign

Signaling our table’s ready

An angelic host

Seating us

With our petition

Before us

Like gourmet spaghetti

Finally partaking

Like lovemaking

Oh taste and see

The Lord is Good

He is Good

Good enough

To wait for

A New Season To Flourish

I love trees. I love to see them so tall with their broad, ever changing and majestic crowns. They sway with the breeze in gentle praise.  In the storm, they bow down low in humble worship.

My favorite time to watch the trees is when they are in full array in late spring and of course, summertime.

To watch the trees, I go to “Africa”.

My front yard is lined with big, flat rocks. Some might call them boulders, but in comparison to the geological wonders here, they are merely big rocks. These rocks are a nice decoration to our yard but also provide a place to sit, something for Cowboy, my son, to climb on, and cool relief to a dog’s belly in the summertime. Mostly, they are a warning of the 30 foot drop on the other side, which if not heeded would surely be a painful tumble down to the Creek Road.

But I digress …… One of these rocks is marvelously shaped almost identically, like the continent of Africa.  Here is where I sit to contemplate the cosmos, and to commune with my God.

It’s been far too long since I’ve visited Africa. Nature has prevented our coming together for nearly six months. Today I was drawn to her; my sprit man yearned for a meeting. I sat down in the warm sunshine. A gentle breeze blew across my face and through my hair. Yes, it was good to be back.  With my face to the sky, I soaked in the sunshine, which had been so very absent from my life as of late. I began to feel lazy and lay down on my side, looking out over the valley.

I could see the tops of many trees, yet had as many more to tower above me as if to keep me humble. Today my trees did not look very majestic. They swayed with the stubble of leaves just beginning, like an awkward adolescent between childhood and man, gangly and sprawling. Still, they moved in quiet praise. I wondered, “Do they ever yearn for spring like I do?” A silly notion of course, impatience in a perfectly designed, life sustaining part of creation, ha! But it led me to consider …..

It must have taken much to withstand the winter we had this year. For six months they’ve weathered high winds, snow, sleet, and spent many weeks entombed in ice. As they stood dormant and resting, strong against the onslaught and cruel grip of winter, many lost limbs, big limbs, that had not been strong enough to withstand the trial. Loss which was undoubtedly needed, as the dead wood drained precious life from the healthy tree. Several trees didn’t make it at all.  Yet here they are, continuing life again.

Being in a spiritual place right now where everything appears to be the same yet nothing is familiar, I thought about my trees. How beautifully perfect my God is.  I have weathered many storms, feeling dormant and useless at times. Yet the trials have broken off my deadwood, pruning me, getting me ready and allowing me “rest” as God prepared me for growth.  In this new place God is bringing me, I feel like that gangly adolescent, attempting to grow, struggling to understand, and desperately trying to bloom.

I lay on my rock for a long time, telling God how marvelous He Is. Adoring His love and all knowing wisdom for what we need, when we need it. I told Him how marvelous He is to have created such amazing things. In reply He whispered ever so gently, “Yes, but my daughter is the greatest of My creations. You too will flourish again and be green and lush, just as your trees will.”

Though at times I’ve foolishly doubted spring would EVER get here this year, logically and in my heart, I knew it would. So I stand, as my trees stand. I’ve withstood the winter, I’ve shucked my deadwood, I’m ready for my spurt of growth, I’m ready to flourish! I don’t have to understand it all. I don’t have to be graceful and never trip, for His grace upholds me.  All I have to do is stand …. stand with all of creation and give my Father praise …..

 Just like the trees.

The River

She is River
She is Life
She is Braving
The way
As He ignites…
His fire inside
Desire whisking her
To that secret place
Hidden as if erased
Only for Him
Her heart
His prize
She is River
She is Song
She is altar
Precious perfume
Never sending Him away
Welcoming His Spirit
As an oncoming wave
All giddy with glee
Childlike faith
She is River
She is Life
Ushering in
Presence noon, day and night
Shining His Light
Giving her Heart
Even when it hurts
Surrendering her will
Until she burns
Rescuing those seeking refuge
Deep waters Deep dark
Sadness beckons but she runs
Where the river is fierce
Enough to swallow her whole
The River is Life
Thy will be done
Her River is Life
Come quickly Lord

An Unfinished Life

Like a project that never gets completed
Like a bad nightmare that keeps being repeated
A moment; A glimpse
A life taken too quick
The grief
 The tears
The aching inside
Nothing to take it away and nowhere to hide
How do you go on after this?
How can anything ever make you feel bliss?
The tears they gather like a bad rain storm
The days, weeks, and months are anything but the norm
It floods your mind and captures your soul
The wrinkles and bags on your face are proof that the pain has taken its toll
Grief so great and loss so real
When you just pray each day not to feel
Why so quick, so final, so complete, the end?
How many more tears do we shed before our hearts begin to mend?
Why? is the questions with no answers in sight
Why that minute? that second? that night?
Didn’t we love you enough to make you want to stay?
Why did God need you and have to take you away?
We need you We love you
 We just had you back
Why was your spirit sad and your willpower lacked?
Why and Who and When and How, in my mind play over and over
Like the endless search for a four leaf clover
How do we find the comfort in our hearts to know you are at peace?
When those of us left here on earth find nothing but sadness in the least
The unspoken words, the unfinished plans, the promising future, the smiles, hugs and kisses robbed forever
How do we pick up our broken hearts and begin the next endeavor?
Are you happy or are you sad?, do you miss us? or are you mad?
Why was 43 years all God said you could have?
Your life wasn’t finished -so much more you could have had………
