The Best Beauty Regimen

Don’t look to the world’s standards on beauty.

Let God be your best beauty regimen

Look to Him always as your mirror.

Let God paint your lips with His word, your eyes with the ability to see the best in others, your cheeks with the rosy glow of love and joy.

Let God cover your imperfections and insecurities with His grace and mercy.

Nothing makes you more beautiful than His Holy Spirit alive within you radiating out to others.

Why do we blog?  The answers to this question vary greatly.  If I were to ask 1,000 bloggers why they spend countless hours writing and networking for little to no money, I would receive 1,001 different answers. Many write to express themselves.  Some write to relieve the pain of an emotional scar.  A few blog […]

Beautiful Things

As long as we are self-assured and carefully restrained we aren’t fully open or true to others or to God. When we are tired of acting like we have it all together, and begin to admit that we sometimes feel desperate, broken, and crushed, when we can finally start to be open, to get honest and are eager for God to work in us, is when our lives can start to change.

Our own willfulness and pride keeps us imprisoned. Embracing His perfect will over our own and humbly admitting our short comings can transform our brokenness to empowerment.

Let go of all the fractured and broken pieces and hand them and your control over to God. He is the Maker of all beautiful things.

Gungor – Beautiful Things

Lyrics:
All this pain

I wonder if I’ll ever find my way

I wonder if my life could really change at all

All this earth

Could all that is lost ever be found

Could a garden come up from this ground at all
You make beautiful things

You make beautiful things out of the dust

You make beautiful things

You make beautiful things out of us
All around

Hope is springing up from this old ground

Out of chaos life is being found in You
You make beautiful things

You make beautiful things out of the dust

You make beautiful things

You make beautiful things out of us
You make beautiful things

You make beautiful things out of the dust

You make beautiful things

You make beautiful things out of us
You make me new, You are making me new

You make me new, You are making me new
You make beautiful things

You make beautiful things out of the dust

You make beautiful things

You make beautiful things out of us

Appearance

Define

Appearance can be defined as an impression given by someone or something, although this may be misleading.

Affirm:

1 Samuel 16:7 “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”

Recall:

Growing up do you remember…

• Getting your church outfit together the day before?

• Going shopping for your Christmas and Easter Outfit?

• Seeing more people at church for Father’s Day and Mother’s Day?

I do! The other day I was thinking to myself. There was a time in which I was told that you have to give the Lord your best. While the ideology behind this seemed normal- I believe there is another view point. So I started my research on appearance and the church.

Appearance is an impression that can be misleading. I realized that so many of us are going to church portraying our best, some of us feel that we can’t go because we feel that our sins are keeping us from the closeness of GOD, and honestly many of us who are Christians project an attitude that seems like GOD’s best.

Church for some of us has become a routine fashion show. At a fashion show, you have people coordinating the event (the church administration), the fashion models embracing the stage (our speakers), and the event attendees (the congregation).

We are focused on how we look on our shoes, our suit, our hair style, the size of our bible, etc. Sometimes we only want to be part of the show. You guys, church is not a fashion event. GOD wants all of you, even when the show doesn’t look its best, even when you don’t feel your best; he wants a relationship with you year-round.

So often we are WORRIED about our looks, our past and the WOUNDS of others that we lose sight of our WORSHIP. If we take our WOUNDs to GOD and WORSHIP him for WHOSE we are- our WORRY about unnecessary things will soon fade away.

GOD looks at your heart and not the outside. I encourage you to ask GOD to reveal the matters of your heart, ask him about how you appear to him, and ask him how to be more Christ-like. Be ready for his answer and be prepared to make those adjustments. Today is your day to see yourself and others how GOD sees you.

Exercise:

Dear God,

Thank you so much for seeing my heart. I want an intimate relationship with you and I want to project a Christ like attitude for others. Help me to display my best for you.

Commit to the change- I DARE You.

No Compromise!

Most of my life has been wrapped around other peoples’ opinions, I wanted to please my parents, I wanted to please my friends, I wanted to please my fellow church goers, I wanted to be ACCEPTED!
Of course, the older we get the more the word “compromise” becomes important.
As we grow, we realize there is no gray area, only black …. and white. Acceptance to people gives way to God’s will. I don’t want to live in that bleak gray area. I want to be shining in His light. I want my life to reflect the light of the Son in a blazing white light of glory!

There have been many times I’ve given way to compromise. I will negotiate with my husband on this matter  … or that, I will give in to a later bedtime for Cowboy on a special night. But there are things I will NOT compromise …….

God is first. What He says, what He tells me to do, and His promises …. this will always come first. I know if I follow this, all will be well with me and mine.

There are times, when so many things come as an onslaught, that we tend to forget our first love, our priorities. With every problem, every distraction, every worry that is brought before us, it’s easy to loose sight of our first love, our first commitment. Eventually, our joy will be lost as well. And what is life without joy? It’s toil, it’s existence. I don’t want to merely exist, do you? NO! We want to LIVE!

It is our choice to accept the things that would bring us down and separate us from our first love. Problems …. sure, we all got them. It’s not the lack of troubles that makes us live, but rather how we LIVE while we are in those troubles. A tree is known by its fruit. But does not the soil have to work and toil to get the minerals in which to live? YES! And so must we! We must seek and search after our God, our source of nourishment, we must choose to live in the abundance of grace and love that has been provided for us. It’s all a choice.

So choose you this day. Will you succumb to the wiles of the enemy who would desire to bring you down, discourage and destroy you? Or will you choose to reach higher, love greater, forgive 70 times 7, and receive the blessing of the Most High?

I choose life. Not just the breath of an eternal body, but everlasting life. I choose His life over my own fleshly desires. I choose to live.

So if I seem strange to you, like I don’t quite fit in ….. that ‘s ok. This ain’t high school and I don’t care what others think of me. This is eternity. I know where I’ll spend it, do you?

And guess what, I don’t want to slide in by the skin of my teeth. NO! I want God to look at me and say, “Well Done MY good and faithful servant!”  You can call me weird, you can say I’m an outcast. It’s all to His glory for I AM a peculiar person and NOT of this world. I am honored that you perceive me as different, it means I’m doing something right because I don’t blend in! I do not and I WILL not conform to this world.

Stand Tall ye of faith! Give praise to the One who has made you! For He knows the number of hairs upon your head, how well yet, does He not know where He leads you?

Go forth, without fear. Go forth in faith. Fear not, for He is with you!

Crazy Stupid Thoughts

Lately, I don’t know exactly why but I find at times I have some fear and doubt creep up and try to grab a hold of me.
Thoughts of worry about my kids.
All of the “what if’s” start to swirl around in my head.
Crazy thoughts that shoot out or at me from no where.

I could be driving and get a flash of an accident or a thought of complete worry just when my kids walk across the street.

Crazy Stupid Thoughts!!

I have to quickly decide what to do with these thoughts.
Do I dwell on it and go into the full blown worry and fret mode?
Do I just blow it off and choose to not think on those things?
I have just a couple of seconds to decide what to do with these crazy stupid thoughts.
Sometimes I turn it around and shoot up a prayer.

Like this:
Thank you God that you have placed angels of protection around me and my family.  I trust that you are keeping us safe and I know that I can place all of my worries in Your Hands.

If that doesn’t work then I speak a promise from God’s Word.

Psalm 91:11-12
For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.

I sometimes chuckle at some of the weird thoughts that come across my mind at times. I know they are not my thoughts because they can be so bizarre.  I can pinpoint they are not my thinking because I have not been dwelling on those specific fears.

I know to take responsibility if I have spent time mulling over and replaying thoughts that could cause me to have fearful or not so nice thoughts.

And then there are times when we do have circumstances that would cause any normal person to be anxious and afraid. That’s when you have to be diligent the most with what you allow to come across your thinker.

I  am reminded of the armor of a God. We are instructed to put it on.
Last time I checked, we really need to dress daily not just once to stayed clean and clothed.
Gross!! Imagine if we only got dressed once in our lifetime.
We would outgrow, out smell and be cast out in the woods with our tattered too tight of an outfit.

Since I don’t live in a nudist colony.
Best choice for everyone involved.
I need to daily get dressed physically and spiritually.

I don’t want to be caught with my armor down!! ha!

Take a look at what Paul wrote to the Ephesians under house arrest in prison.  This applies to us. At least those of us who want to be victorious and not let things like fear, doubt or worry get the best of us. Your fiery dart might come packaged with a different name.

Grief
Discouragement
Jealousy
Rage
Offense
Lust
Revenge
Self-pity

Remember the purpose of a fiery dart is to set you on fire. It only takes a spark to get a fire going.
The mind is the biggest battlefield.

Ephesians  6:10-17
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.  Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.  Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Get up each morning and put on the armor of God.
It doesn’t have to be a long and drawn out process.

Just say something as quick and easy as, “I am wearing you Jesus every where I go. Let’s go out and do this day together.”

I like to keep things simple.
If a thought comes your way that is not going to take you to a place of love, joy, peace, self-control, kindness, forbearance or gentleness then extinguish it with your intentional thoughts of the Truth.

Strategy:
Pull down or pluck off some fruits of the Spirit from your tree of life and toss out a fruit salad to chew on.

Amazing how much better you will feel. The negative thoughts can’t hold on to something that doesn’t come into agreement with the fiery darts of destruction.

Galatians 5:22-23
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

James 4:7-8
Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

Be fruity and don’t allow fear or any other tactic from the enemy to be worn on you today.
It’s just not fashionable. You were not fashioned to wear such tattered too tight of clothing.

Light On,
