Workmanship

WORTHY THOUGHT: We were born to make evident the glory of God and that is within us.

God is working in you and through you to accomplish His great purposes. God placed something powerful inside you for you to go out into the world.

We are His workmanship (design, art, poetry) in Christ Jesus.

For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

-Ephesians 2:10

Words Spoken Into Existence

From the beginning of time, words were used to speak things into existence.

And God SAID, “Let there be light,” and there was light. Genesis 1:3 ESV

There is a purpose for everything God created through His spoken word.

Words have power.  God chose His spoken word to connect His eternal spiritual reality to the physical world of our lives. Words release power over our lives and the people in it.

We often fail to understand how important words are. We are unaware of the power created by speaking them.

God’s full and good will was unleashed when he spoke his creation into existence, through His Holy Spirit. And it is that same Spirit that now also lives in us just waiting to apply that same power in our lives, according to the word of God.

Words have power, even negative ones.

I grew up believing the enemy’s lies. I wasn’t good enough. I was a failure. I was unworthy and unlovable. I would never be worthy of grace or love. On and on the enemy would ramble.

I believed every word. I was each and every negative defining experience I proclaimed into my life.

Little did I know, the words I heard, for my entire life, would dictate how I acted and how I responded.

They defined who I was.

Negative self-talk becomes a negative life lived out, and the enemy would love to see nothing more than his lies alive in our heart.

However, we have the opportunity to receive God’s Word into our life and change absolutely everything. Words create life and they also create death. They raise us up or tear us down. They guide and direct us into action. They define who we are and help us live life along the journey God lays before us.

The act of an all knowing, all loving God was spoken; love was formed into creation.

Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. Genesis 1:26 ESV

God had a bigger plan. He had a purpose for you and for me. His Word creates a healthy connection, wisdom, and brings loving relationships into life. His Word establishes the truth and exposes the enemy’s lies. His Word creates new life through forgiveness and redemption.

It creates love called into action.

Jesus defines who we are by His words that are always in truth. Do you live by the defining nature of God?

Do you believe in God’s truth spoken about you?

Do you live life by the truth of His word?

Holy Spirit, come into our lives and empower us with the truth of Your Word. Allow our hearts to be open to the wisdom you have in each word spoken. Allow your word to protect and guide us with confidence. We want to live faithfully, in obedient reverence, glorifying you. Meet us right where we stand. Lead to the path you put before us. Remind us that your word is at the tip of our tongues. It is the spoken instruction you have laid upon our heart. Enlighten us with the power of Your Word.

In Jesus Name, Amen

WORTHY THOUGHT : Are we capable of doing God’s tasks?

When God called Moses to do a task for Him, ( to lead the children of Israel to the promise land) Moses didn’t feel adequate to do the task, but God reassured him.

-Exodus 3-4

When God calls you to do a task for Him, He doesn’t ask you to be adequate, He asks you to be available.

Have I not commanded you: be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God is with you wherever you go. -Joshua 1:9

For we are His creation, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time so much that we should walk in them. -Ephesians 2:10

A Place In The Sun

“I am bursting with GOD -news!

I’m walking on air. I’m laughing at my rivals.

I’m dancing my salvation. Nothing and no one is holy like GOD, no rock mountain like our God. Don’t dare talk pretentiously— not a word of boasting, ever!

For GOD knows what’s going on.

He takes the measure of everything that happens.

The weapons of the strong are smashed to pieces, while the weak are infused with fresh strength.

The well-fed are out begging in the streets for crusts, while the hungry are getting second helpings.

The barren woman has a houseful of children, while the mother of many is bereft.”

‭‭

“GOD brings death and GOD brings life,

brings down to the grave and raises up.

GOD brings poverty and GOD brings wealth;

He lowers, He also lifts up.

He puts poor people on their feet again;
He rekindles burned-out lives with fresh hope, Restoring dignity and respect to their lives

— a place in the sun!

For the very structures of earth are GOD ’s;

He has laid out His operations on a firm foundation.

He protectively cares for His faithful friends,

step by step, but leaves the wicked to stumble in the dark.

No one makes it in this life by sheer muscle!

GOD ’s enemies will be blasted out of the sky, crashed in a heap and burned.

GOD will set things right all over the earth, He’ll give strength to His king, He’ll set His anointed on top of the world!”

                 ~ ‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭2:1-10‬ ‭MSG‬‬
2:1-10 Hannah’s heart rejoiced, not in Samuel, but in the Lord. She looks beyond the gift, and praises the Giver. She rejoiced in the salvation of the Lord, and in expectation of His coming, who is the whole salvation of his people. The strong are soon weakened, and the weak are soon strengthened, when God pleases. Are we poor? God made us poor, which is a good reason why we should be content, and make up our minds to our condition. Are we rich? God made us rich, which is a good reason why we should be thankful, and serve him cheerfully, and do good with the abundance he gives us. He respects not man’s wisdom or fancied excellences, but chooses those whom the world accounts foolish, teaching them to feel their guilt, and to value his free and precious salvation. This prophecy looks to the kingdom of Christ, that kingdom of grace, of which Hannah speaks, after having spoken largely of the kingdom of providence. And here is the first time that we meet with the name MESSIAH, or his Anointed. The subjects of Christ’s kingdom will be safe, and the enemies of it will be ruined; for the Anointed, the Lord Christ, is able to save, and to destroy. – Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary

I was studying these verses recently and the phrase

“A place in the sun” jumped out at me.
A place in the sun means -a position of favor or advantage.

I read the commentary and a few more things jumped out at me that I highlighted above in the commentary section.

As I meditated on the verses, my hope is that we, just like Hannah, pray this prayer and look beyond the gifts and look straight to the Giver of all good things. May we too feel our guilt and value His free and precious salvation. Take your place in the sun and share the Son with others.

A Genesis Week

I was reading in the word this week in The Message version, Psalm 51:10. It says
Psalm 51:10

God, make a fresh start in me, shape a Genesis week from the chaos of my life.

As I was reading I felt God begin to impress on me – that is what he is wanting to do in His people. He wants to begin a Genesis week in your life. He wants to breathe new life and growth into you.

The universe is always expanding. Always growing, always going. Bursting with life. That began in Genesis, when God spoke it into being. There is no limit on the creative power of God.

God has spoken some things into being in our lives. Some of us have promises that he has given us that we have not yet seen in the natural. But the scriptures promise us that if God began a good work in you, He is faithful to complete it and that His word does not return void! Stay faithful to your covenant with God. Keep trusting. Keep looking to Him. You may not see it yet, but if God has spoken it, it is on the way.

Some of us have seen the fulfillment of promises in our lives. They have walked out a portion of God’s plan for their life and now they feel that their time has past. God’s word is alive in you! The fulfillment of a work in you and through you is not the end of all work in you and through you. The fulfillment of a purpose in you is not the end of all purpose in you. He has more for you. The life and power he has spoken into you through His word is always growing and always expanding.

His word says that He makes all things new. He has made each of us the promise that He will never leave us or forsake us. The Bible is full of promises that God spoke into being for your life. I encourage you, keep walking with God. Keep reaching out to Him and seeking Him. He wants to start a Genesis week in you and breathe His life into you.

The Beach

What is it about the beach that causes one to be so relaxed and fresh minded. Since all of my not so old life that I can remember I feel more at home sitting on the beach or a near a body of water.

I used to tease that I must have been a mermaid or dolphin in another life. But since I know that I was created by an awesome Creator who designed me to like what I like and be what I am.

Which in not a mermaid or dolphin.

I continue to draw near to the water and sun every chance I get.

I know the truth.

The truth is:

God created us from the dust of the earth.
Genesis 2:7

“Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”
There must be something to many of us feeling so at home near where we came from. Yes, I have been called a tree hugger, granola girl and hippie at times.

I’m really just a lover of nature and all things connected with it.

I do eat meat!!😜
BTW, trees tell us stories with their rings found in their stumps and could tell us some whoppers if they could speak.

Stop and look at a tree. I dare you to ask it a story!!
I love the earth that God created. Just when I think I have seen the most beautiful thing, I am amazed at another scene before me with backdrops of His majesty.

Right now it just happens to be a creative canvas of turquoise ocean and white sand.

Check out Isaiah 60.

I couldn’t stop at verse 2 because it has so much more insight for those who want to go deeper.

Isaiah 60

The Glory of Zion

60 “Arise, shine, for your light has come,

and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.

2 See, darkness covers the earth

and thick darkness is over the peoples,

but the Lord rises upon you

and his glory appears over you.

3 Nations will come to your light,

and kings to the brightness of your dawn.

4 “Lift up your eyes and look about you:

   All assemble and come to you;

your sons come from afar,

and your daughters are carried on the hip.

5 Then you will look and be radiant,

   your heart will throb and swell with joy;

the wealth on the seas will be brought to you,

to you the riches of the nations will come.

6 Herds of camels will cover your land,

young camels of Midian and Ephah.

And all from Sheba will come,

   bearing gold and incense

and proclaiming the praise of the Lord.

7 All Kedar’s flocks will be gathered to you,

   the rams of Nebaioth will serve you;

they will be accepted as offerings on my altar,

and I will adorn my glorious temple.

8 “Who are these that fly along like clouds,

   like doves to their nests?

9 Surely the islands look to me;

in the lead are the ships of Tarshish,[a]

bringing your children from afar,

   with their silver and gold,

to the honor of the Lord your God,

   the Holy One of Israel,

for he has endowed you with splendor.

10 “Foreigners will rebuild your walls,

and their kings will serve you.

Though in anger I struck you,

in favor I will show you compassion.

11 Your gates will always stand open,

they will never be shut, day or night,

so that people may bring you the wealth of the nations—

their kings led in triumphal procession.

12 For the nation or kingdom that will not serve you will perish;

   it will be utterly ruined.

13 “The glory of Lebanon will come to you,

the juniper, the fir and the cypress together,

to adorn my sanctuary;

and I will glorify the place for my feet.

14 The children of your oppressors will come bowing before you;

all who despise you will bow down at your feet

and will call you the City of the Lord,

Zion of the Holy One of Israel.

15 “Although you have been forsaken and hated,

   with no one traveling through,

I will make you the everlasting pride

and the joy of all generations.

16 You will drink the milk of nations

and be nursed at royal breasts.

Then you will know that I, the Lord, am your Savior,

your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.

17 Instead of bronze I will bring you gold,

and silver in place of iron.

Instead of wood I will bring you bronze,

and iron in place of stones.

I will make peace your governor

   and well-being your ruler.

18 No longer will violence be heard in your land,

nor ruin or destruction within your borders,

but you will call your walls Salvation

   and your gates Praise.

19 The sun will no more be your light by day,

nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you,

for the Lord will be your everlasting light,

and your God will be your glory.

20 Your sun will never set again,

   and your moon will wane no more;

the Lord will be your everlasting light,

and your days of sorrow will end.

21 Then all your people will be righteous

and they will possess the land forever.
Our Creator loves us so much He gave us all the wonderful places to visit and soak in His light and allow His glory to appear over us.

How He Loves Lyrics

He is jealous for me, loves like a hurricane, I am a tree

Bending beneath the weight of His wind and mercy

When all of a sudden I am unaware of these afflictions

Eclipsed by glory and I realize just how beautiful You are

And how great Your affections are for me

And oh, how He loves us, oh

Oh, how He loves us, how He loves us all

He is jealous for me, loves like a hurricane, I am a tree

Bending beneath the weight of His wind and mercy

When all of a sudden I am unaware of these afflictions

Eclipsed by glory and I realize just how beautiful You are

And how great Your affections are for me

I hope you all get a chance this summer to go and just sit to be amazed at His creation. Let Him speak to you through the breezes, rain falling, leaves whistling, waves breaking or just your backyard birds chirping.

The Potters Favor

You can’t speak for me
If you will not listen!
Be quick to listen
Slow to speak
Slow to wrath!…
You will find me
When you seek me
What are you seeking?
Me or my provision?
I’m the prize!
I’m the treasure!
Love me now
Then you’ll
Have the Potters
Favor
The spinning wheel
The clay and water
The fragile child
The loving Father
Waiting on
The change
That must take place
Will you bend?
Will you break?
Will you seek
My face?
Round and Round
We go
Until
My will
Is done.

A New Season To Flourish

I love trees. I love to see them so tall with their broad, ever changing and majestic crowns. They sway with the breeze in gentle praise.  In the storm, they bow down low in humble worship.

My favorite time to watch the trees is when they are in full array in late spring and of course, summertime.

To watch the trees, I go to “Africa”.

My front yard is lined with big, flat rocks. Some might call them boulders, but in comparison to the geological wonders here, they are merely big rocks. These rocks are a nice decoration to our yard but also provide a place to sit, something for Cowboy, my son, to climb on, and cool relief to a dog’s belly in the summertime. Mostly, they are a warning of the 30 foot drop on the other side, which if not heeded would surely be a painful tumble down to the Creek Road.

But I digress …… One of these rocks is marvelously shaped almost identically, like the continent of Africa.  Here is where I sit to contemplate the cosmos, and to commune with my God.

It’s been far too long since I’ve visited Africa. Nature has prevented our coming together for nearly six months. Today I was drawn to her; my sprit man yearned for a meeting. I sat down in the warm sunshine. A gentle breeze blew across my face and through my hair. Yes, it was good to be back.  With my face to the sky, I soaked in the sunshine, which had been so very absent from my life as of late. I began to feel lazy and lay down on my side, looking out over the valley.

I could see the tops of many trees, yet had as many more to tower above me as if to keep me humble. Today my trees did not look very majestic. They swayed with the stubble of leaves just beginning, like an awkward adolescent between childhood and man, gangly and sprawling. Still, they moved in quiet praise. I wondered, “Do they ever yearn for spring like I do?” A silly notion of course, impatience in a perfectly designed, life sustaining part of creation, ha! But it led me to consider …..

It must have taken much to withstand the winter we had this year. For six months they’ve weathered high winds, snow, sleet, and spent many weeks entombed in ice. As they stood dormant and resting, strong against the onslaught and cruel grip of winter, many lost limbs, big limbs, that had not been strong enough to withstand the trial. Loss which was undoubtedly needed, as the dead wood drained precious life from the healthy tree. Several trees didn’t make it at all.  Yet here they are, continuing life again.

Being in a spiritual place right now where everything appears to be the same yet nothing is familiar, I thought about my trees. How beautifully perfect my God is.  I have weathered many storms, feeling dormant and useless at times. Yet the trials have broken off my deadwood, pruning me, getting me ready and allowing me “rest” as God prepared me for growth.  In this new place God is bringing me, I feel like that gangly adolescent, attempting to grow, struggling to understand, and desperately trying to bloom.

I lay on my rock for a long time, telling God how marvelous He Is. Adoring His love and all knowing wisdom for what we need, when we need it. I told Him how marvelous He is to have created such amazing things. In reply He whispered ever so gently, “Yes, but my daughter is the greatest of My creations. You too will flourish again and be green and lush, just as your trees will.”

Though at times I’ve foolishly doubted spring would EVER get here this year, logically and in my heart, I knew it would. So I stand, as my trees stand. I’ve withstood the winter, I’ve shucked my deadwood, I’m ready for my spurt of growth, I’m ready to flourish! I don’t have to understand it all. I don’t have to be graceful and never trip, for His grace upholds me.  All I have to do is stand …. stand with all of creation and give my Father praise …..

 Just like the trees.
