A Soft And Sweet Answer

“A gentle response defuses anger, but a sharp tongue kindles a temper-fire.”                                         ~Proverbs 15:1 MSG
This is the scripture of the day today in my Bible app. It is so very true and one I remind myself of almost daily! And…One I use often with my girls.
A true life lesson.

If I could really grasp this principle from Proverbs, how many arguments could I avoid?

Sometimes I am reluctant to have this soft response because it feels like I am validating the anger not to react to it, but if I really trust the Lord that HE can make things right if I respond correctly to others, then I am capable of a soft and sweet answer in the face of nasty.

In this aspect, may we all be fire-extinguishers, instead of kindling wood. I have to say, when I have gone and said what I felt “needed to be said!” I have never felt better afterwards. Usually a sickening feeling of regret has accompanied the sweet reminder from Jesus that now, just as he is talking to the other angry person, he is also now having to talk to me about my response and attitude.

And true to form, He never yells angrily. He obeys his own advice and speaks sweetly and softly to stir my heart to repentance. My dad always told us that we are only responsible for our response to any situation. And not responsible for anyone else’s.

He DRILLED that in our heads. I have had to use this advice continually over this obstacle course called life soooo many times.

Lord, thank you for always having patience with me as I learn to speak sweetly and softly to those who are angry and frustrate me. Whether that’s to my spouse, my friends, my daughters, my family or even strangers in traffic. 😳 You never ask us to do something you don’t demonstrate. Thank you for being so amazing towards me. For your unconditional love, I love you, my precious savior.

Never miss a good opportunity to shut up.” – Will Rogers

Rescue

Who remembers the moment…? You know, the moment BEFORE…the split-second before the doctor spoke the diagnosis and your world crumbled; before the divorce was announced, yours or your parents and it rocked your foundation; before the death of a loved one caused you to turn away from God in anger and grief; before that sexual sin, yours or someone else’s done to you, robbed you of that full measure of innocence? Before you decided that a particular sin, yours or someone else’s was the unforgiveable?
So the next moment DID happen and you felt betrayed. Betrayed by everything you knew to be good in your life. Betrayed by God himself. So you ran away into the wilderness, alone. You stepped down into a trench of bitterness and you waited…waited in silence, in anger, in grief, in pain…waited for God to notice that you were, in fact, off by yourself and utterly alone…that one lost sheep that everyone has heard about who slipped away from His flock, His hand, His care. Now you wait there in daily trepidation and trembling because the wolves and bears in your life are catching your scent – the scent of defiant anger that tries unsuccessfully to mask the hopelessness of your situation. You want nothing to do with God but deep inside you still think “Where is He? What is taking so long for Him to come find me?”
Praise God! He knit you together in the womb. He knows you backward and forward. He knows everything about you – your favorite things and all the quirks of your personality…and He even knows your hiding places. He knew before the beginning of time that you would need a rescuer…a rescue from someone else’s sin and your own. Even then, He was making a way for your release. Because of Who He is, He determined before you even came into being that you were going to be valuable enough to Him to send His son to come and get you…to be your rescue…to take your place. Beloved child of God: HE MADE A WAY FOR YOU TO COME HOME! As you sit in your trench and contemplate your options, I’d like for you to think about this:
• A plan has already been drafted for you to come home
• The Father is eagerly awaiting your return
• At a high cost to Himself, He has hand-picked the Rescuer who is guaranteed to save you
• He has not only promised restoration for you, but blessings double of that which you had before!

Could it be that as long as you determine to stay hidden, and wrap yourself in your circumstances, you are delaying the rescue…? Are you the reason for making it take so long?

Jesus, our Rescuer, is calling for you to come out from wherever it is that you are hiding right now. Gather your courage, stand up and wave your arms. Cry out to Him. Be saved. Come home. ~Debbie Bouckley

Fear not, for I have redeemed you [ransomed you by paying a price instead of leaving you captives]; I have called you by your name; you are Mine. Isaiah 43:1b (AMP)

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! -Psalm 139:13, 16-17

And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be liberated into God’s freedom and peace. Acts 2:21 (VOICE)

When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. John 14:3 (NLT)

Michelle’s Restoration Story

Michelle’s Restoration Story

Sometimes I don’t even know where to begin to share my story. God has brought so much restoration into my life and He continues to Restore me daily. Like many mom’s & wives we lose ourselves and pour into our families that we rarely leave any room for ourselves. We put our health on the back burner and burn the candle at both ends. We buy the lies of the enemy and grieve our losses without the Hope that Christ offers us. We are wounded and broken and don’t know where to turn. In 2008 I found myself overweight and overwhelmed. I suffered a stroke which led to a overload of doctors and diagnosis and finally ended with the words diabetes & thyroid disease. I joke that God took away my smoking addiction, He took away alcohol, and He took away my cake too! But what an awesome blessing it is because it forces me to take better care of myself as well as, to keep my focus on Him. Little did I know that most of my health issues and the extra weight I carried were just manifestations of trying to keep a secret buried. I revealed the secret to only a select few over the years, but it wasn’t until I released that 20 + year old secret to God and got honest and obedient to Him that He could do some of His best Restoration work in my life. My secret effects 1.3 + Million women each year. Many churches and communities promote the Sanctity of Life, but rarely have I seen churches or communities doing anything about trying to help Restore these women’s lives after the effects of Abortion. There are far too many women not operating in their God given potential because they are carrying around a heavy bag of shame from trying to hold on too tightly to their secrets. Whether that secret is an abortion, an unplanned pregnancy, not finishing high school or college, yelling at your kids, angry at your spouse, vainness, a critical or judgemental spirit, cursing like a sailor, having an affair, sexual abuse, struggling with self esteem, hurting yourself physically, turning to pills or alcohol or sex or shopping or food for escape or comfort. It doesn’t matter what it is if you release it all to God. My desire is to let women know that God can and will use you if you let Him. He can breath new life into those dead dry bones. He can turn every ounce of your pain into an amazing purpose. God wants His daughters and sons to be Restored! Are you ready to release your secrets ? To Get Real? & let God use you?
