The Bright Light Of Hope

IMG_1450.JPG

Arise, Jerusalem, and shine like the sun; The glory of the Lord is shining on you! Isaiah 60:1 (GNT)

The Israelites had a rich history with the concept of God’s presence being synonymous with light. During creation, ‘God said “Let there be light”; and there was light’. (Genesis 1:3) Later, they lived it first hand during the plagues brought upon Egypt by God. At God’s instruction, one of the plagues Moses called for was complete darkness for three days…but there was light in all the places where the Israelites lived. (Exodus 10:23) Later, when the Israelites left Egypt, God led them with a great cloud during the day and a pillar of fire to light their way at night. Pharaoh pursued them with his great army. When the Israelites began to panic at the thought of being hunted down and taken back, God then moved His great, tall cloud to the rear of their group. In this way, the cloud stood between the Egyptians and the Israelites. There was darkness for the Egyptians, but there was light for the Israelites. (Exodus 14:20)
So, in Isaiah’s day, God gave him a message of incredible hope for his fellow Israelites. They had returned to Jerusalem from captivity in Babylon and were now under Persian rule. Things looked pretty bleak. Jerusalem was a shell of its former glory. The people were wondering if, as we tend to do today, God was alive and still cared about them and if He was still with them as their God. They wondered if miracles were a thing of the past. Then, as now, God still answers even the questions we dare only speak aloud in our hearts. It’s as if He is reassuring them and us: “Yes, Beloved, I’m here. See? My light is shining upon you and this generation. It’s now your time to be confident and shine in the glory of My love and my presence. Your particular history with Me awaits.”*
For us today, the message of hope is even more incredible! We have experienced what the Israelites of the past only dreamed of. The reality of Christ, the Messiah and Promised One, living inside us. If we believe in Him, we receive His light and His spirit to permanently dwell within us, not to keep to ourselves- but to share with the world. Jesus always says it best:
Jesus spoke to the Pharisees again. He said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will have a life filled with light and will never live in the dark.” John 8:12 (GNT)
“The people who live in spiritual darkness have seen a great light. The light has shined for those who live in the land that is as dark as a grave.” Matthew 4:16 (ERV)
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not defeated it. John 1:5 (ERV)

I believe the word of God is alive and powerful. I have used God’s word throughout different situations and it has been the only thing that fully transformed or restored me and the different areas of my life.

Each Wednesday I will be bringing you a new Bible Verse and a Scripture Picture.

I hope you will leave your thoughts in the comments each week with what the verses mean to you or how you have used them in your own life.

Be sure to follow @RestoredPeople on Twitter and # your own favorite verses each week using #WordofGodWednesday

There is nothing we can’t overcome by the Promise of God’s Word and The Power of the Holy Spirit! ~ XXOO Michelle Bollom

For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. ~ Hebrews 4:12 NLT

“The Holy Scriptures are the word of God. When God sets it home by His Spirit, it convinces powerfully, converts powerfully, and comforts powerfully. It makes a soul that has long been proud to be humble; and a perverse spirit, to be meek and obedient. Sinful habits, that have become as it were natural to the soul, and rooted deeply in it, are separated and cut off by this sword. It will uncover in men their thoughts and purposes, the vileness of many, the bad principles they are moved by, the sinful ends they pursue. The word will show the sinner all that is in his heart. Let us hold fast the doctrines of Christian faith in our heads, it’s enlivening principles in our hearts, the open profession of it in our lips, and be subject to it in our lives.” ~Matthew Henry Concise Commentary Hebrews 4:12

Michelle’s Restoration Story

Michelle’s Restoration Story

Sometimes I don’t even know where to begin to share my story. God has brought so much restoration into my life and He continues to Restore me daily. Like many mom’s & wives we lose ourselves and pour into our families that we rarely leave any room for ourselves. We put our health on the back burner and burn the candle at both ends. We buy the lies of the enemy and grieve our losses without the Hope that Christ offers us. We are wounded and broken and don’t know where to turn. In 2008 I found myself overweight and overwhelmed. I suffered a stroke which led to a overload of doctors and diagnosis and finally ended with the words diabetes & thyroid disease. I joke that God took away my smoking addiction, He took away alcohol, and He took away my cake too! But what an awesome blessing it is because it forces me to take better care of myself as well as, to keep my focus on Him. Little did I know that most of my health issues and the extra weight I carried were just manifestations of trying to keep a secret buried. I revealed the secret to only a select few over the years, but it wasn’t until I released that 20 + year old secret to God and got honest and obedient to Him that He could do some of His best Restoration work in my life. My secret effects 1.3 + Million women each year. Many churches and communities promote the Sanctity of Life, but rarely have I seen churches or communities doing anything about trying to help Restore these women’s lives after the effects of Abortion. There are far too many women not operating in their God given potential because they are carrying around a heavy bag of shame from trying to hold on too tightly to their secrets. Whether that secret is an abortion, an unplanned pregnancy, not finishing high school or college, yelling at your kids, angry at your spouse, vainness, a critical or judgemental spirit, cursing like a sailor, having an affair, sexual abuse, struggling with self esteem, hurting yourself physically, turning to pills or alcohol or sex or shopping or food for escape or comfort. It doesn’t matter what it is if you release it all to God. My desire is to let women know that God can and will use you if you let Him. He can breath new life into those dead dry bones. He can turn every ounce of your pain into an amazing purpose. God wants His daughters and sons to be Restored! Are you ready to release your secrets ? To Get Real? & let God use you?
