Rest

Last week I mentioned that I had a surprise. The surprise I did not discuss became more of a reality later in the week. My nose started to run and I have a little cough…

I really hate to discuss it all because I don’t want to draw attention to any of it, but the lesson I am learning from it is that God does desire for us to rest. Rest in HIM. Rest to heal. Rest to be with Him. Many reasons we need to rest.

I have often said that our lives often become so busy that we forget to rest. The women’s retreats I used to host were about learning to stop and rest. Learning to stop and LISTEN to His voice. Learning how to let go of frustrations and really TRUST Him. The theme was Rest and Refresh and Restore… Someday I hope to host another one!!!

The Word is clear that REST is important. As I looked at verses, this one jumped out at me:

Psalm 55:7-9 I said, “I wish I had wings like a dove! Then I could fly away and be at rest. Yes, I would flee to a place far off, I would stay in the desert. (Selah) I would quickly find me a shelter from the raging wind and storm.”

I read the whole chapter, and it is my thoughts and feelings today. There are days I feel the battle so strongly and just want it to go away. I want to run from it and find a place to hide. Then I read the following verses…

Verses 13-15: For it was not an enemy who insulted me; if it had been, I could have borne it. It was not my adversary who treated me with scorn; if it had been, I could have hidden myself. But it was you, a man of my own kind, my companion, whom I knew well. We used to share our hearts with each other; in the house of God we walked with the crowd.

How very true. It is often those who we are close to that cause the most pain. It is those who we have companioned with and spent time with. It is those who we “shared hearts with.” What does David tell us to do when these moments happen????

Verse 23: Unload your burden on Adonai, and he will sustain you. He will never permit the righteous to be moved.

The chapter ends with:

But for my part, [Adonai,] I put my trust in you.

Friends, let HIM be your ROCK and REST. Don’t run. Just find peace in the middle of the storm. Find HIS WORDS to comfort you. Let HIM sustain you.

Those are the promises I hold onto today as I rest and heal. Those are the WORDS of TRUTH that strengthen me. I pray that you can find a PROMISE from the Word today.

Shabbat Shalom,

Rose Horton
