Isaiah 66:2 (NAS): But to this one I will look, to him who is humble and contrite of spirit, and who trembles at My word.
We don’t like to tremble, and we often avoid being humble and of a broken spirit. But, if it is for the right reason and for the right person, it is advantageous. God does not despise our humility, broken hearts, or trembling spirits; instead, he delights in them. In fact, there is no other way to get to him.
When we repent of our self seeking and invite Jesus into our lives, it must be on bended knee—it must be on his terms, an unconditional surrender.
And daily life in the Spirit is no different. Every moment, we must bring to him our emptiness and willingness, or our self efforts are in vain. He has no need of our wisdom or strength. He is wisdom and strength incarnate. He is only looking for and waiting for willing hearts and receptive spirits. When he finds us so inclined, he moves in mightily to inspire us and strengthen us in our respective missions.
Humility, contriteness, and ready obedience—everything that might be desired in one’s children. For then the loving parent is free to bestow on his good child that dream and blessing that is waiting in the parent’s heart for just the right occasion. The good parent already has success in himself; now his only new joys come from watching his child walk in his footsteps and learn to live in wisdom and love. And the child learns to delight in giving his loving parents pleasure and joy.
