Purple

A new year… new beginnings… Most people wish for 2020 to be over, and yet I have a feeling that in “hindsight” we will realize that what we have learned is beneficial and will be part of our lives forever.

If we stop to think about the last color of the rainbow – purple – I believe we will see how we can enter 2021 knowing that we are royalty in the family of God.

Judges 8:26 The gold earrings he requested weighed more than forty-two pounds; and this doesn’t include the crescents, pendants and purple cloth worn by the kings of Midyan and the chains around their camels’ necks.

Gideon… the battle they fought allowed them to take possessions. Some of it was the purple cloth worn by “kings” of the Mideonites.

Proverbs 31:22 She makes her own quilts; she is clothed in fine linen and purple.

If purple is mentioned alongside fine linen, it is known to be a color of high worth.

Acts 16:14 One of those listening was a woman from the city of Thyatira named Lydia, a dealer in fine purple cloth. She was already a “God-fearer,” and the Lord opened up her heart to respond to what Sha’ul was saying.

Lydia… a dealer in “fine purple cloth.” We can once again see that purple cloth was known to be an item of luxury. She was a “God-fearer” and yet she had more to learn. More to understand. Sha’ul (Paul) was sent so she could gain NEW insight and understanding, and hear about Jesus.

New Years has become less to me since I started to follow the Hebrew calendar. I can see that “starting fresh” and “setting goals” is all well and good, but I see it happening more at Passover and Rosh Hashana than during the Gregorian calendar New Years.

However, I know that we must stop often to reflect. We must take time to LISTEN to what HE is asking us to do. When we read the Word we can see that Adonai cares for HIS children. That HE desires us to be dressed in royal colors. That HE wants to be our Abba and listen to us.

We need to take time to learn NEW things. We need to take time to step outside the boxes we have placed around us as protection. We need to explore HIS ideas and apply them in new ways.

Prepare your heart for HIS anointing. Prepare for Him to show you NEW things. The troubles in this world are NOT going to go away. But we know that HE will be with us. HE will take care of us.

TRUST Him with ALL your heart. Lean not on your own understanding. In ALL your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your path level.

Next time you choose to wear the color purple, tell yourself that you are a CHILD of the MOST HIGH GOD. That you are part of a royal family and priesthood. Than give Him thanks for taking care of you every step of the way…

Shabbat Shalom,

May 2021 be filled with HIS Promises and blessings,

Rose Horton
