Green… The next color in the rainbow. Let’s take a look and see if green is in the Word of God.
One of the most common is from Psalm 23:2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
In the Complete Jewish Bible it says: He has me lie down in grassy pastures, he leads me by quiet water,
Psalm 37:1-2 Don’t be upset by evildoers or envious of those who do wrong, for soon they will wither like grass and fade like the green in the fields.
Revelation 9:4 They were instructed not to harm the grass on the earth, any green plant or any tree, but only the people who did not have the seal of God on their foreheads.
Green is usually seen as a reference to trees and grass. In late February and March there are green fields in Israel, however, most of the time there is not. The fact that green fields are referenced over and over is interesting. Most of the year, green in Israel is non existent.
Green, however, does signify LIFE. Spring time when the GREEN pops all over the trees and fields, we know that new LIFE is coming forth. Spring is the time that we reflect on what HE is doing in creation.
We also know that green pastures usually signify peaceful moments. We see pictures of people enjoying a picnic in green grass. We see new lambs frolicking in fields of green. Green is a color that brings a smile and blessing to most people’s faces.
The verse from Revelation is actually about locusts that are sent forth to, for lack of a better term, cause havoc on earth. Read Revelation 9 to see for yourself what is going to happen.
I will be honest that I do not claim to understand all the prophecies that are written and given. I’m kind of a more “day to day” person and making sure that I live my life today as He wants me and requires me. I understand that we must prepare ourselves for all that will come to pass, but I don’t claim to know how it will actually play out.
God desires us to have LIFE and live LIFE with HIS abundance and peace. We can find green, grassy pastures when we are SEEKING HIM in Spirit and Truth.
There are other verses in certain translations that use the word green. Most refer to olive leaves. Those will also bring understanding to what I wrote above. I challenge you to do your own search with green in the Bible. You might find new thoughts and ideas that I missed.
