Yellow… The third color of the rainbow. Is it in the Bible?
The only reference I could find with the word “yellow” was in Leviticus. Not exactly the most exciting to read, but…
Leviticus 13:29-30 “If a man or woman has a sore on the head or a man in his beard, 30 then the cohen is to examine the sore; if he sees that it appears to be deeper than the skin around it, with yellow, thin hair in it, then the cohen is to declare him unclean; it is a crusted area, a tzara‘at of the head or beard.
This is not the most pleasant way to understand yellow. However, there is Truth for us to learn from their way of handling leprosy and their way of needing to understand when to “quarantine.” The “laws,” which are actually teachings, gave them instructions by which to live for cleanliness. When you hear of “613 laws,” many of them were for living in camp and keeping it clean. Because of our sanitation things today, we don’t have to worry about them. They are not relevant for modern day. However, understanding that illnesses can infect us, we do need to realize that when we have a sore, if it is a certain color, we probably should have it examined. In this case, a thin piece of yellow hair is not healthy…
Since yellow isn’t a strong color referenced in the Bible, we can also look at gold. We all know that is significant. The sanctuary… It was COVERED in gold. Solomon had everything overlaid with it.
I Kings 6:20-22 This sanctuary was thirty-five feet long, wide and high; and it was overlaid with pure gold. In front of it he set an altar, which he covered with cedar. 21 Shlomo overlaid the interior of the house with pure gold and had chains of gold placed before the sanctuary, which itself he overlaid with gold. 22 The entire house he overlaid with gold until it was completely covered with it. He also overlaid with gold the entire altar that belonged to the sanctuary.
Gold is also tested by fire. This verse is key in the days and times we live in.
I Peter 1:7 Even gold is tested for genuineness by fire. The purpose of these trials is so that your trust’s genuineness, which is far more valuable than perishable gold, will be judged worthy of praise, glory and honor at the revealing of Yeshua the Messiah.
Tested like gold… Our trials are going to BUILD our genuineness, which is FAR MORE VALUABLE than gold – which perishes. Being genuine is more important than having gold. Experiencing trials to build TRUST is how it happens.
Gold will perish… The city of God will not. Gold can be melted and become a blob… But when it is tested and tried and molded, it becomes beautiful.
That is what God is doing. He is refining and molding. He is bringing out those who genuinely LOVE Him.
Time for cleansing and refining. Time to be HEALED and made whole. That is what I think of when I see the colors yellow and gold.
How are you letting Him work in your life? How are you letting Him cleanse you? Refine you?
Remember: the genuineness is MOST IMPORTANT.
