Seat

Seat… this word came to my mind today because we bought “new to us” chairs for our table today. We love finding great deals and my daughter decided to have some fun sanding and painting. The dining room table looks brand new with these freshly painted chairs around it.

The word seat is also used in the Bible. I believe that these seats can build us up spiritually. Here are a couple mentions of them:

There is a seat called the “Moses seat” spoken of in Matthew 23:2-3 “The Torah-teachers and the P’rushim (Pharisees),” he said, “sit in the seat of Moshe. 3 So whatever they tell you, take care to do it. But don’t do what they do, because they talk but don’t act!

We know that we will be seated around a table full of food some day. The great “wedding feast” with the Father!

Revelation 19:9 The angel said to me, “Write: ‘How blessed are those who have been invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb!’” Then he added, “These are God’s very words.”

Jesus is seated at the right hand of the Father.

This verse is from Luke 22:69 But from now on, the Son of Man will be sitting at the right hand of HaG’vurah,”

In the verse above the literal translation for HaG’rurah is, “the Power.” Jesus will be seated at the right hand of the POWER of God.

This was quoted in Psalm 110:1Adonai says to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool.”

The type of chair we sit in is important. Back problems can occur if there isn’t enough support. Back problems lead to posture issues. In order to keep our bodies healthy we should find chairs/seats that will keep our posture strong.

The verses above should show us that “chairs/seats” are important in the Kingdom as well. If you remember, the mother of James and John asked for her sons to sit on either side of Jesus. She obviously thought that a “seat” was important.

The Moses seat was known in the community as a place for those of “leadership” to sit. There is one at the Korazim State Park in Israel. The king often sat at the city gate. A seat is located at the Tel Dan State Park right at the city gate. Both of these parks are great places to learn the importance of “seats” (and gates) during the time of the Bible.

If we want to stay strong spiritually, I believe we should watch who we are seated with. We should surround ourselves with people who we can discuss Truth with. We should find chairs at tables with those we can fellowship and pray with.

If we are given a place of “power/leadership,” we need to be careful that we do not abuse the position. Jesus was quite clear that the disciples should take care to “do” what the leaders taught, but NOT to act as they act. It is quite sad, in my mind, that the “spiritual” leaders of the day could not be trusted. And yet, we see the same things happening in different places today. “Spiritual” leaders are walking away from the Truths of the Word and teaching what “itching ears” want to hear.

The wedding feast of the Lamb will be a glorious time together. A seat at this table is a high honor. Obviously, you must be “invited” to a wedding, so what are you doing to gain a seat at the table? You must KNOW someone (the bride or groom) in order to get an invitation. How do you get to know the Father? Through Jesus.

If we know Jesus, Who is seated at the right hand of “the Power,” than I believe we will have power as well. How could we not? He is in us, with us, and around us. Having a seat next to Him is empowering!

Seating… Chairs… Are you building your spiritual chair? Are you sanding, painting, and tightening screws so you are solid spiritually? Are you preparing yourself for the wedding feast of the Lamb?

Keep your posture strong. We live in difficult times. There is division everywhere. Find a seat/chair that will keep your back in good alignment. Now is not the time to slump. Sit tall. Sit with His authority. Bring His Truth to those you meet. Look with anticipation and excitement towards the day that you will be at the wedding feast!

Shabbat Shalom,
