When I moved onto a narrowboat about two years ago I finally had the time to write my first book, God and The Spoon Bender.
I have always enjoyed history and satire and so I combined the two in the book.
God and the Spoon Bender (and other strange creatures) is a
Satirical farce set in an afterlife divided ‘spiritually’ along political lines and physically by barbed wire.
A stressed, overworked God regrets creating man daily. Things aren’t helped by his adviser the Spoon Bender (aka Guru) trying to steal his secrets. Or by the arrival of various odd characters: Boorish Bumble, the former PM, whose ambition is to become a god himself; a centenarian queen high on magic mushrooms; EU hater, Farrago, whose punishment for his earthly sins is to have his head turned 180 degrees – literally; and Stevie Hawkwing, the atheist scientist, who’s convinced that he’s in the middle of a weird dream caused by eating cheese on toast for supper!
A manic madcap mix of The Odyssey, The Great Escape and Cinderella.
I am now working on my second novel, a zombie comedy, while at the same time trying to market the first.
