“Honor Your Body With Every Decision You Make”

This is a phrase my health coach and I discussed and I decided to post it in various places to remind me.

But today as I read it I started thinking …

If God’s Spirit lives in me .. this could read as “Honor God With Every Decision You Make”

That decision alone sometimes can be tough with a world full of so many modern day idols and temptations. Not to mention all the distractions biding for our attention.

We may not be bowing to a huge golden calf these days but I know I have bowed to a good ole cheeseburger from time to time.

I have a tendency to not take the best care of myself so the “honor my body with every decision” is a great concept but when I switch it to “honor God with every decision”… now that phrase holds a lot more depth and meaning for me.

As I was studying in Isaiah and came across this verse I was struck at the significance of idol worshipping being alive and well still today.

Some #NuggetDrops I took away were:

An idol is whatever claims the loyalty and glory that belongs to God alone.

Idols are associated with witchcraft and contain demonic potencies that constitute a very real spiritual menace.

Idolatry is a direct attacks against the basic nature of God.

Idolatry and Christianity are totally and utterly incompatible.

We as believers should admonish and keep free from idols.

So, I started thinking about what modern day idols could we be entertaining or worshipping.

Are we more loyal to our TV or Netflix or the gym or outward beauty regimens or our bank accounts or stock portfolios than quality God Time in His presence and Word?

Are we more loyal to junk food, fad diets, binge eating or our couch or favorite chair instead of honoring our temple with good food and exercise?

Are we more loyal to our church or religion and little trinkets and symbols or rituals than actually being the hands and feet of Jesus and serving and loving and praying for others in our own family or community every day instead of just Sunday?

Are we more loyal to the sales or coupons at our favorite stores or the daily deals on Amazon instead of being a good steward of our time and resources and actually giving something back?

Hey, these are hard questions I ask myself too and sadly I am guilty in some areas and I definitely don’t want to be.

So, back to my phrase –

If we “Honor God With Every Decision We Make”

I think that would stop us from giving our loyalty and glory to many modern day idols and shift our focus back to God and God alone.

Just some things I am pondering on my journey to do things a bit differently and to honor God with my health and my decisions by making my choices give Him all loyalty and glory.

I am the Lord, that is My name; and My glory I will not give to another, nor My praise to carved images. Behold, the former things have come to pass, and new things I declare; before they spring forth I tell you of them.

~ Isaiah 42:8-9 NKJV
