We long for a father’s love, and for a mother’s tenderness. We remember the security of being protected by a strong, loving father. We remember the joy of being cherished by a nurturing mother. Those that somehow were denied these things begin life with an aching heart, a wounded soul, and a searching mind. They ask, “When will I be loved? Who is going to take care of me?”
There is good news. Our Heavenly Father stands ready to fill in what was lost. Even those that knew a father’s strength and a mother’s love are included in Our Heavenly Father’s perfect embrace. It is written: “When my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will take me up.” Also, “Listen to your father, who gave you life. Do not despise your mother, when she is old. Buy the truth, and do not sell it. Get wisdom, discipline, and understanding. The father of a righteous man has great joy; he who has a wise son delights in him. May your father and mother be glad; may she who gave you birth rejoice.”
God wants to be our father and our mother, our brother, our sister, and our friend! He wants us to find everything that we need in him. Then, we will be whole and complete and be able to venture out into this cold, dark world and be light bearers and sources of warmth and strength for those who are struggling and searching for answers.
As it is written: “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.”
