Power Of The Tongue

WORTHY THOUGHT: The most powerful weapon in the universe is your tongue.

Death and Life are in the power of the tongue. Those who love it will eat its fruit.  -Proverbs 18-23

What is violence? In the first place, we think weapons, knives, killings. We never think of connecting violence with our tongues. But the first weapon, the most cruel weapon, is the tongue. Examine what part of your tongue has played in creating peace or violence.

We can really wound a person, we can kill a person with your tongue.  -Mother Theresa

Take ships as an example although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. -James 3:4-6, 10

Gods Word that is conceived in your heart, then formed by the tongue, and spoken out of your mouth, becomes a spiritual force releasing the ability of God within you. ~ Charles Capp

Meditate on scriptures to learn how to use your words wisely. Words we speak will either build you up or hold you in bondage. Many people have been taken captive by using their own words.

Becoming Ready

“Be ready! Be fully dressed and have your lights shining.” Luke 12:35 ERV

I typically look forward to Thanksgiving while preparing for food, connection in relationship, and fellowship amongst family and friends. However, last week, I found myself torn between being thankful for my life as it is, and for those that I knew who would meet the holiday grieved from life’s circumstances.

I have friends and family that find themselves in the midst of experiencing unexpected death of loved ones, unanticipated release from employment, finality of divorce, and seeking answers for unexplained sickness.

Great loss is never an easy journey, and sometimes, trying to come up with words for someone’s loss can seem defeating. How can anyone ever “be ready” for those things?

Personally, I think that deep down, I know that no matter what I say, or heartfelt it is, it won’t compensate for their void. And it won’t take away their pain.

But losses are supposed to be just that. Unfixed. Unfinished. Final.

The problem is that many of us don’t like to accept the finality of things that still need time, need completion, or doesn’t make any sense. Naturally, we like to try and fix things or people, yet it is impossible to fix what is out of our control.

When I look back on my weaknesses, and the emotional pain suffered from my own losses, I find that life didn’t stop because of my circumstances, and time never stood still, even when it felt like it had stopped.

What I did have, in front of me, was a choice. I have always had a choice in front of me. Some things can never be gained in the way of a replacement. They can, however, be significant by the way I choose to look at my life and in the manifestation of how I live my life.

Loss was never intended to be easy, or understood. It always seems to come with some type of price. I find myself continuing to be thankful. Being thankful despite my losses has taught me the purpose of living in the present moment and the importance of everyday moments.

In an unexpected way, loss has shown me how to get ready, and be dressed in the light. It has guided me into what I consider the meaning of what it is to truly live.

May you join me in finding thankfulness for each and every blessing, not forgetting the ones still to come.

Peace Blessed Peace

“Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness.”

“Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the sons of God.”

Peace, blessed peace. It is what we long for, what we hope for, and it is what we have with God in Christ“being justified by faith, we have peace with God.”

Peace is more than the absence of conflict. It is more than an armed truce. It is true reconciliation, atonement. God has no more argument with us. We have done what he wanted us to do. We have confessed and agreed with him about the truth – that we are sinners in need of a savior and that Christ is that savior. That is all that he wants, and, if we will continue in that truth, he will work wonders on our behalf. If we but hold on to the truth, he will perfect us in Christ; he will make us just like his Son. We will have the same intimate relationship with the Father that Christ enjoys. We will hear his voice and know his heart.
The heart of God: “peace on earth to those on whom his favor rests.” The only reason God ever goes to war is to prevent the violent from disturbing the peace of his children.

Our heritage: a Father that loves us so much that he is willing to shake heaven and earth to ensure that his children live in safety and security. Also, it is our inheritance. “Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth.”
God loves those that have forsaken violence to walk in obedient trust, suffering when necessary for the sake of Christ and his Gospel. The end result will be a world without conflict, peace loving believers living in harmony with the Father and all of his creation.

What is it going to be like living in a stress free utopia in which there will be perfect order and harmony?

We can have a foretaste now as we give our lives to Christ and commit to loving our neighbor as ourselves. At some point, the vision will become the dream, and all those who hate peace will be removed from the scene, so that only the lovers will be left standing. “God will be with us and walk among us. He will be our God, and we will be his people.”

I Got Something

I got something make the devil gonna run

I got something make the devil be gone

Run devil, run devil, run devil run

You bet your bottom dollar he’s gonna be gone

I got something make the devil gonna run

I am loving this Crowder song!

I got the King of kings and the Lords of hosts

I got angel armies and a Holy Ghost

I got spirits here that are tied by fire

I got a valley of bones that came alive

I got a cross, a hill, and an empty grave

I got a trumpet sound and one sweet name

Shake the gate of hell, the sinners and dogs

I got my Jesus and the devil gotta run

Run Devil Run – Crowder

Lyrics:

Run devil, run devil

Run devil, run
I got something make the devil gonna run

He been dancing till the break of dawn

Devil gon’ try to take a shot at me

He got none, but baby I got three
He tryna make a fool outta me

Y’all taking out my sanity

He ain’t nothing but a silver tongue

I got something make the devil gonna run
I got something make the devil gonna run

I got something make the devil be gone

Run devil, run devil, run devil run

You bet your bottom dollar he’s gonna be gone

I got something make the devil gonna run
Run devil, run devil

Run devil run

Run devil, run devil

Run devil run
I got something make the devil go away

I’ve been dancing all night and day

Holy Ghost, filled with fire

Look out devil we got revival
Now people gonna move and say

Holy Roman murder scene

He ain’t nothing but a silver tongue

And I got something make the devil gonna run
I got something make the devil gonna run

I got something make the devil be gone

Run devil, run devil, run devil run

You bet your bottom dollar he’s gonna be gone

I got something make the devil gonna run
I got the King of kings and the Lords of hosts

I got angel armies and a Holy Ghost

I got spirits here that are tied by fire

I got a valley of bones that came alive

I got a cross, a hill, and an empty grave

I got a trumpet sound and one sweet name

Shake the gate of hell, the sinners and dogs

I got my Jesus and the devil gotta run
I got something make the devil gonna run

I got something make the devil be gone

Run devil, run devil, run devil, run

You bet your bottom dollar he’s gonna be gone

I got something make the devil gonna run
Run devil, run devil

Run devil run

Breathe In Deeply

Some of you may have felt like the air has been knocked out of you.
Some recent news or life events have taken you to your knees.
You can’t even imagine a time when or if you will ever be able to recover or stand back up.

Let God’s Word breathe new life into you.

Let God’s Word bring clarity and correction and a new perception of what you need to change and where you are to go.

 Let God’s Word strengthen you.

Let God’s Word prepare and equip you for every good work that He has planned for you.
                     Breathe In Deeply!
Surrender your heart’s pain and grief to Him.

Be filled to overflow with the Power of His Promises.

All Scripture is God-breathed given by divine inspiration and is profitable for instruction, for conviction of sin, for correction of error and restoration to obedience, for training in righteousness learning to live in conformity to God’s will, both publicly and privately—behaving honorably with personal integrity and moral courage; so that the man/woman of God may be complete and proficient, outfitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Desires

WORTHY THOUGHT: Why is it so difficult for God’s people to get along?

Often times the wars among us are caused by wars within us; selfishness, worldliness, and pride. These quarrels result from evil desires within us.

For they seek their own interests, not those of Jesus.

– Philippians 2:21 ESV

Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth

 – Colossians 3:2 ESV

When there is strife, there is pride, but wisdom is found in those who take advice.

– Proverbs 13:10

Are we being prideful trying to please ourselves even if it hurts someone else?

In the Book of Genesis; Abraham loves God. Abraham was obedient to God and he cared deeply and prayed for his nephew Lot. Abraham was separated from sin and considered a friend of God. God blessed Abraham richly. (Genesis 2:23).

Abraham’s nephew Lot, also believes in God but was selfish, prideful and a friend of the world. Lot’s life ended in very sad circumstances. (Genesis 13:1-13)

We must be careful since Satan knows how to use pride to defeat us just like he defeated Eve. (Genesis 3:1-6)

Ask God to help you get rid of your selfishness, worldly desire’s and pride, trust Him to give you what you really need. There is nothing wrong with wanting a pleasurable life. God gives us good gifts that He wants us to enjoy. God’s rich bounty is good for us. But it is wrong to seek pleasure and desires that keeps us from pleasing God.

Start Moving

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Why are you still crying to me? Tell the Israelites to start moving.  Exodus.14.15.ERV

I have to admit, over the last couple of months, I have felt like one of the Israelites. A purposeful call and new employment situation has led me into a system that doesn’t view God’s plan as I know it to be.

The change has been challenging. I have found myself stirred up by the noise of the battle, the energy of the disgruntled, and the compromise in my own confidence.

Isn’t it easy to question oneself in the midst of a storm?

In the uncertain?

On the daunting journey ahead?

It’s been tough and I have wondered whether or not I shouldn’t have stayed where it was safer, where I didn’t have to extend myself out of “my comfort zone.”

Today, I find myself being reminded about the Israelites. What I love about God is that he doesn’t tell us to stay where it is easy. He wants us to grow.

God told the Israelites to start moving.

Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again.  Exodus 14.13.NIV

Moses told them to stand firm because he trusted God’s plan. Not only was the Lord preparing a way to cross the sea, he also wanted the Israelites to find the strength that was in them to persevere and to be delivered.

So often, we look at difficult situations with an impossible lens. We tend to forget about the power within us, through Christ, and the purpose of his plan.

We take on the need to fight God’s battles, instead of remembering to stand firm, while he does the fighting. He already knows how it all turns out. Everything we complete in faith is for His glory. Today, let us be reminded to be rooted in Jesus.

Lord, we just come to you today with a thankful heart, knowing that no matter what we are facing, or what lies ahead, you are with us. You are for us. Without you, there is no reason to keep moving. We praise you for what you have established in this day and in all things to come.

In Jesus name, Amen
