Romance – the mystery, adventure, and excitement associated with love.
We have been invited to the greatest romance the world has ever known.
Our soul’s lover, Jesus, is constantly wooing us and drawing us deeper into his heart, his life, and his mind. He zealously desires to share himself with us, and our part is to follow his lead and to invite him into our hearts and lives.
We must be wary of the romance killers – fear, worry, and selfishness, for Jesus is a selfless lover; he lives to bring glory to the Father and to bless us, his brothers and sisters. His pleasure is to share himself with us and to encourage us to follow him. This requires single-minded devotion on our part, free from the worries and cares of this life. We must cast our cares onto him, for he alone is strong enough, loving enough, and wise enough to carry them for us.
We must sensitize our hearts and minds to hear and respond to his gentle guidance and encouragement. Moment by moment, he reaches out to us – through meditation on his word, through quiet prayer vigils, and through our willing obedience to what he has taught us so far. As we hold on to what he has already given us by grace – the wisdom, the courage, the faith, the hope, and the love, he increases our blessings little by little (Phillipians 3:12-16).
Let us give our hearts to Our Father’s great romantic love. Let us be enthralled by his love, captivated by his presence, and motivated to live our lives in his service. He alone holds the key to the great adventure that he has in store for each one of us. He alone is strong enough, wise enough, and loving enough to fulfill our souls’ deepest yearnings for abundant life!
