Many times, I have reflected on the hardship that is found in relationships. I’ve pondered my own and others. In fact, I’ve even wondered what it would be like if all relationships went smoothly, only to find another one tempted, questioned, or struggle.
Relationships certainly aren’t always easy, are they?
Most often, they require more than what is expected, even when we didn’t think they would. They bring out emotions, on various levels, even when we wished that they wouldn’t.
Some create the greatest joy. Others have caused the deepest pain. Haven’t we all been hurt at some point by a relationship? Haven’t we also hurt people in at least one of our relationships?
We create wounds in relationship. Despite whether or not it was intentional or unintentional, purposeful or without, pain may have been the end result.
Relationships are hard work. ALL.OF.THEM. Sometimes, relationships are fulfilling. Other times, they can be broken. Some require mending; whereas, some end up being an example at newfound wisdom.
In any case, relationship is our heart’s desire.
They take time dedication, experience, and growth.
They are at the heart of what exists by our example in Christ, Jesus. They are from the past, right now, in the future, and what is to come. We will all encounter them.
So, here is a question only you can answer.
How are you doing in your relationships?
Lord, allow us to take this day to accept the invitation to evaluate all of our relationships. Give an opportunity to make amends where it may be needed, grow in areas that need nurturing, and learn from where we may not thrive.
Remind us what a relationship is by your perfect example. Give us the opportunity to reflect on how you gave, what you sacrificed, and how you lived out restoration. May we build relationships that mirror you.
In your precious name, Amen.
