Worthy Thought: You cannot make yourself the light of the world. Jesus says you are the light of the world because of your relationship with him.

When Jesus again spoke to the people, he said, ” I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” ( John 8:12 NIV )

When Moses lead His people out of Egypt, God’s presence was with them. God provided a pillar of fire for their protection and guidance. (Exodus 13:21,22)

Jesus brings God’s presence, protection and guidance to us.

You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:13-16 NIV)

Just as the moon has no light of its own, reflecting the light of the sun, so are believers to reflect the Light of Christ so that all can see it in us. The Light is evident to others by the good deeds we do in faith and through the power of the Holy Spirit.

  1. When I walk with my clients round a track, some days I just feel void of what I might offer them. Their pain is so great, and I am so empty. And I ask Jesus silently to come walk with us around the track. To just walk close, between us. To breathe his Spirit into the time together. And minutes later the climate of conversation has changed. Real, raw and hard things are being addressed. Those moments of finally getting it. Tears. And therapy has happened again, with a pillar of light to warm us both. Thank you for this beautiful reminder today.
