Pocket Book

She clutched

That purse

Like a pacifier

Close against her breast

It’s faux leather

Comforting her

Chest

Everything

Was inside

If she could

Of crawled in

There she

Would have

Zipped the world

Away

I wanted to

Sit by her

Pray for her

Ease her pain

Instead

I assumed

Her baggage

Too heavy

And disengaged

We will never

Know the lives

We cross

If the cross

We carry is

Dismembered
