Trust can be defined as the acceptance of the truth of a statement without evidence or investigation or firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something.
Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
In bible study a few weeks ago, our church leader made reference to Proverbs 3: 5-6. With my head, I thoroughly understand the scripture. I should trust GOD in everything I do. In theory this works; but in application I often fail.
A few days later, while conversing about this concept with my cousin Lashonti, it came to the realization of why it is often difficult for us (believers) to trust GOD.
We have been let down by grandparents, parents, siblings, aunts, and uncles.
We have been let down by guy friends, girlfriends, and best friends.
We have been let down by our spouses, our children, and our closest loved ones.
We have been let down by employers, co-workers, the economy, and business colleagues.
We have been let down by Microsoft, Apple, Samsung, and Sony.
We have been let down by pastors, first ladies, Sunday school teachers, and church friends.
We have been let down by our own personal thoughts and our own personal actions. Sadly, we have let others down and at times, we have not been trust worthy ourselves.
Goodness…We have witnessed so much distrust or mistrust that it seems impossible to fully trust GOD.
Just think about it. Has GOD been asking you to lean on him in a specific area of your life? Do you constantly experience this cycle of giving GOD a few of your ways- not all of them? Do you find yourself falling into the same pit hole?
Plain and simple, we cannot rely solely on people, things, or even self.
The common denominator of what lets us down is either man or man-made! GOD on the other hand will never fail us; he will ALWAYS catch us when we are falling.
How do we go from a place of not trusting GOD and move to a space of fully trusting him?
#1 READ THE WORD
Reading the word of GOD helps strengthen our faith and our belief in GOD. The word of GOD will work in us so that we can be more dependent on him.
Prayer shapes our relationship with GOD. It is through prayer that we grow spiritually and open up the lines of communication with GOD. When we pray GOD will speak directly to us.
Worship shows GOD our reverence for him. It is through worshiping GOD that we open up our hearts to GOD. When our hearts are open he will do an amazing work in our lives.
I don’t know where you are with trusting GOD in everything; but if you like me sometimes experience those moments of distrust or mistrust, I encourage you to- go back to the basics: Read the Word, Pray, and Worship- sit back and watch GOD work wonders in your life!
Thank you so much for showing me how to draw closer to you. Lord, I whole heartedly want to trust you in everything I do. In areas that I need growth, please show me how to put it all in your hands. Thank you father, I love you.
Commit to the challenge. I DARE you.
