The Shores Of My Soul

I have had this album for awhile.  I have heard the song countless times, but this week – I really heard it!

On the shores of my soul
I give You permission
To wash my tears away
And take all my disappointment
[and] fill me with joy once again

On the shores of my soul

Now that is a great use of wording here- so I looked up the definition of “Shore”.

Shore-the land between ordinary high- and low-water marks.  A country or other geographic area bounded by a coast.
Shore-a prop or beam set obliquely against something weak or unstable as a support.
the land between ordinary high and lows…. WoW-
A prop or beam set against something weak or unstable as a support….Double WoW!

So on the shore ( the place between my highs & lows) there is a prop and support set against my weak and unstable soul.
Have you ever felt like you have cried way too many tears ? Like the hurt and disappointments have been piling on top of each other and produced a huge surplus of tears.  I picture God operating a big conveyor belt full of bottles -sort of like God’s own bottling and manufacturing company.   Instead of Coca Cola or RC or Mr. Pibb, it is my tears -Michelle’s own special blend-God is busy bottling up.

I give You Permission

What? You mean God doesn’t just come in and wash away the surplus of tears (halt production) or take away the disappointments? (Box them up and ship them off)

No.
We have to invite Him in and ask Him to wash the tears and remove the disappointments.
Like the song goes on to say, we are free and out of the cage but we like to stay perched up on it not flying off to better days, we prefer sometimes to sit stewing in our messes and rehearsing our hurts.

But if we get up high enough, above the shame and loneliness, and we let God’s kindness lift our gaze so we look at things the way He sees them, we will see His way is much better.  We ask Him to remove and wash all the junk out of our souls.
That leaves us freed up to keep singing His praise, Singing our songs of victory and deliverance.  We keep choosing to be filled with His Joy!
And definitely we sing so loud it rings in all the Earth.

On The Shores
By Melissa Helser

On the shores of my soul
I give You permission
To wash my tears away
And take all my disappointment
[and] fill me with joy once again
[repeat]

I’m gonna sing out loud
And let my voice be heard
It’s a song of victory
And it’s ringing in the earth
[repeat]

On the top of my cage I am sitting
Above the shame so lonely
Your kindness it has lifted me
To see the way that You see

I’m gonna sing out loud
And let my voice be heard
It’s a song of victory
And it’s ringing in the earth
[repeat]

Hallelujah, hallelujah
Hallelujah, hallelujah
[repeat]

Hallelujah, hallelujah
I’m gonna let my voice be heard
[hallelujah, hallelujah] It’s a song of victory
[hallelujah, hallelujah] and it’s ringing in the earth

Hallelujah, hallelujah
Hallelujah, hallelujah
