“Fifty Shades of Grey” hits theaters on February 14, 2015 this year. Valentine’s Day is the perfect day to share this inspiring movie with your special someone. This movie is based on the best selling book, “Fifty Shades of Grey”. It perfectly demonstrates the true love that emerges between two people emotionally connecting all the while trying to find their ways in this world.
Hold it right there!!
Have I read this book??
So! I’m really not the best one to give advice on a movie I haven’t seen or a book I have not read.
However, these facts I have read.
To be fair I’m not the expert. I’m just a mom who cares about our kids and this future generation. Hoping they will learn to connect with each other in healthy respectful ways.
Of course you can decide based on your own beliefs or lack of beliefs about the appropriateness of these books and future movies.
-Junior high and high school girls are reading these series of books in huge numbers.(ages 12-18)
– Many Christian moms and grandmas are reading it and going on to read the next two books in the trilogy to complete the story without any moral discussion or objection (ages 19-90)
I learned this from Wikipedia:
The second and third volumes, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed, were published in 2012. Fifty Shades of Grey has topped best-seller lists around the world, including those of the United Kingdom and the United States. The series has sold over 100 million copies worldwide and been translated into 52 languages, and set a record in the United Kingdom as the fastest-selling paperback of all time.
It’s spreading like wild fire!!
It has been penned, “Mommy porn” and is considered a forerunner in creating a new genre with the same name.
Changing the literary scene.
*The owner of the Damson Dane Hotel opted to replace all the Bibles in the hotel nightstands with Fifty Shades of Grey.
Making a spiritual statement
*Sales of duct tape, cable ties and rope at a hardware store skyrocketed after the books release in Pennsylvania thanks to the bondage scenes in the book.
Hardware stores profiting
*The author writes her sex scenes to music. She said, “I have songs that I write the sex scenes to. One of them is the Black Eyed Peas song ‘Sexy’ That is a very sexual song.
*Sex toy sales went up drastically since the book came out. Sales of love beads or “smart or love balls” alone have went up 400% after Anastasia Steel enjoyed them in the book.
*The books were developed from a Twilight fanfiction, originally titled Master of the Universe. James removed her fan-fiction from the various websites after comments were made about the sexual content concerning characters Edward Cullen and Bella Swan. After its removal, James rewrote and extended her story, making it an original trilogy.
Why it’s called “Twilight for Adults”.
*Fifty Shades of Grey has actually been banned from several libraries in the United States due to it’s graphic nature and not ‘meeting guidelines’.

21 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About “Fifty Shades Of Grey”
Let me introduce to you the theme that the movie is centered around.
I had to look it up to see what it stands for and means.
(I’ve been a little sheltered)
1: Sadism and Masochism
The practice of using pain as a sexual stimulant. Some variants of S&M include:
And so on…. A to Z.
Well, I’m not going to list what it includes. Honestly it’s just not appropriate. If I can’t say it around my teenagers without blushing that might be a clue. These are actually real activities that may appear innocent at first but lead to emotional, physical and spiritual bondage. They don’t call it bondage for nothing!!
The experimentation of S&M does not bring couples and marriages to a closer connection of intimacy and a respect for each other.
I am sure that even Dr. Phil would agree with me on this one.
This may be an issue of debate but remember I am choosing to see or not to see the movie based on my choice of what God’s Word says about the matter.
What does the Bible have to say?
I have no idea specifically so let me do some research.
10 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.
3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.
Okay, seriously there are so many verses that discuss respect, honor and common sense of the do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Go for it!! You google it. I got enough with the first two.
The Golden Rule makes a good case for discussion.
How about just good common sense.
As I said earlier the movie centers on the theme of S&M. The main character Christian Grey (an interesting name for his character) is a incredibly successful and wealthy young entrepreneur who meets Anastasia. She is intrigued by his secret life and is drawn to him. Like many young ladies she finds herself falling for him and compromising her values and conscience to keep an on going relationship with him.
You don’t have to stick your head in a pile of 💩 to know that it really is poop.
Just take a sniff and let your senses be your guide.
I give Fifty Shades of 💩
Three thumbs down with a long pointy finger leading folks to:
In my opinion, this is what you sign up for if you read or watch “Fifty Shades of 💩”.
Keep in mind the scripture verse below. Since we are dealing with a young fan base of readers and watchers, let’s take a look at the Message Version.
Philippians 4:8 The Message (MSG)
8-9 Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.
Would “50 Shades of Grey” meet the criteria above for things to think or ponder upon??
Before we throw anybody under the bus who may have been involved in these activities or currently engage in them. Or perhaps out of curiosity read the books or watch the movie.
How about we have an open loving discussion with them.
It could go like this:
There really is no need to inflict pain on oneself or anyone else. Jesus paid it all on the cross. He took the whips, the beatings, the torture so we wouldn’t have to suffer here on this earth.
The enemy so brilliantly convinces people that pain will give them control over their struggles and shortcomings. A false relief that in reality brings more pain.
This is a lie some choose to believe. All one needs to break the lie is the truth. The truth sets us free!!
This verse in the Old Testament is speaking of our Messiah to come.
New Living Translation
“But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.”
The truth is Jesus came to set the captives free so we don’t have to reenact the captivity and bondage.
We actually have the capability to be set free from our sins and bondage by allowing Jesus to carry our sins to the cross for us.
It’s not necessary to read or watch the book or movie just to be innocently entertained, if you think it doesn’t affect you, I am sorry to say you are being deceived. I personally do not want the images, emotions or thoughts in my head related to such a dangerous slippery slope.
You decide whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are just and worthy ….think on these things.
